With ambitious growth plans, SYSTRA Ltd is at an exciting juncture as we continue to expand and enhance our presence in the UK & Ireland. We are currently seeking an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer (Building Services) to join our engineering design practice.
This role within our MEP engineering team is ideal for a dedicated and ambitious engineer who can demonstrate strong leadership and interpersonal skills, coupled with commercial acumen. You will be leading electrical engineering buildings services design projects for key infrastructure projects in the UK and Ireland, with opportunities for global project involvement. The position can be based in our offices in York, Manchester, Birmingham, or Reading, and offers the flexibility of a hybrid working model, with an average of three days spent in SYSTRA or client offices.
Key Responsibilities:
The Principal Electrical Engineer’s main duties will be to lead a team of Electrical Engineers reporting to the Team Leader or Discipline Lead M&E and act as MEP Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) and/or Lead Engineer on MEP projects allocated to them by the Team Leader or Discipline Lead M&E. The Principal Electrical Engineer will be accountable for the design delivery of Electrical Design allocated to MEP Projects and to be responsible for:
- Ensuring projects are completed to meet all client’s requirements and applicable standards.
- Ensuring projects are completed to the agreed project programme.
- Ensuring projects are completed to the agreed budget.
- Plan the project works and provide forward view resource forecasting to enable the team leader to allocate suitable resource to the projects.
- Identify changes to the projects client requirements and raise the changes with the SYSTRA Project Management Team.
- Provide monthly cost to complete forecasts to the SYSTRA Project Management Team.
- Ensuring the training and development needs of the electrical team are met to serve the clients’/projects requirements.
Experience Required:
- Detailed knowledge of electrical services design within the built environment and/or transport infrastructure including low voltage distribution, lighting, small power, containment, earthing, fire alarms and intruder alarms
- Detailed knowledge of multi-disciplinary issues associated with M&E and building services
- Experience with Electric Vehicle charging point infrastructure design would be advantageous
- Detailed knowledge of construction principles and standard
- Experience in working with offshore Production Centres
- Ideally an Incorporated or Chartered Engineer
- Qualified to HNC or equivalent
- Significant engineering design and site experience in a similar consultancy or contractor organisation
- This role requires considerable professional experience and expertise in order to manage complex or non-standard design solutions.
- Have a good understanding of CSM/CDM regulations and requirements.
- Good communication and presentation skills for external presentations to clients.
- Management of a team of Electrical engineers on allocated projects.
- Maintaining good relationships with all external parties to enhance the reputation of the company.
- Maintaining good relationships with Engineers from other internal discipline teams to promote good inter-discipline working relationships and a “One Team” ethos.
