Purpose of the Role:
The Quality and Governance Officer is a new role for the Elizabeth School of London (ESL) and reflects its commitment to providing an excellent student experience and developing good governance practices.
The role is based at the campus in Canary Wharf but there may be requirements to travel to our other UK campuses (currently Manchester, Birmingham, Northampton, Leeds, Leicester).
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the development and implementation of the Quality and Standards Framework and Governance Framework.
- Assist the QAEM in ensuring compliance with the Office for Students (OfS) Regulatory Framework, in particular relation to:
-Student Access (Condition A)
-Quality and Standards (Condition B)
-Protecting Students (Condition C)
- Ensure relevant policies and key documents are up-to-date with relevant legislation and the OfS.
- Coordinate ESL’s schedule for Quality Assurance such as programme approval, programme review, module evaluation, continuous improvement, external examiners, and student experience surveys and take the lead in at least one of these processes.
- Service an allocation of committees e.g. writing agendas, collating papers, collaborating with the Chairs, writing formal minutes and ensuring that actions are completed.
- Develop expert knowledge of internal quality assurance and governance mechanisms and provide advice to colleagues as appropriate.
- Develop expert knowledge of national regulation and advisory bodies such as the Office for Students, Quality Assurance Agency, Competition and Markets Authority, AdvancedHE etc.
- Write guidance documents on various themes to non-expert audiences and contribute to the writing of committee papers.
- Ensure the annual review and update of the Access and Participation Statement.
- Develop the use of qualitative and quantitative data in monitoring the performance of the ESL academic portfolio.
- The QGO will be professional, organised, able to manage their own workload, provide excellent customer service, and manage sensitive information with a high degree of confidentiality.
- All staff are expected to follow ESL policies and engage in performance review.
About You:
We are looking for someone who has:
- Experience in an office environment, in a Higher Education setting.
- Knowledge of external legislation, regulation, guidance in relation to Higher Education.
- A Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university or significant work experience relevant to the role.
- Advanced knowledge of ICT software including Word, Excel, Adobe Pro, PowerPoint.
- Experience in servicing meetings including writing agendas, writing papers, minute writing, following up on actions.
- Experience in working independently to strict deadlines.
- Experience of one or more HE QA procedures such as programme approval, annual programme review, student surveys,
- A high attention to detail.
- (Desirable) Experience in writing documents on complex issues for a variety of audiences.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and the ability to present complex information in simple language.
