Title: Career and Employability Officer

To ensure a high quality and consistent student experience to all our students, the successful candidate will work collaboratively with academic and professional services colleagues across Schools, Faculties, Student Opportunity, the Advancement Team sharing information, making connections, and improving the service we deliver.
Key responsibilities:
- Act as a source of expertise for ESL on matters relating to student career and employability and other related services.
- Career Counselling: The officer meets with students individually or in groups to assess their career aspirations, interests, skills, and strengths. They provide personalized guidance and support, helping students explore different career options and make informed decisions regarding their professional paths.
- Job Search Assistance: The officer assists students in developing effective job search strategies, including resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation, networking, and online job application techniques. They may conduct workshops or provide one-on-one coaching to help students improve their job search skills.
- Employability Skills Development: The officer helps students identify and develop the skills required for successful employment, such as communication skills, teamwork, problem-solving, leadership, and digital literacy. They may organize workshops, seminars, or training sessions to enhance students' employability skills.
- Career Development Programs: The officer designs and implements career development programs and initiatives to support students' professional growth. This may include organizing career fairs, industry-specific events, guest speaker sessions, and internship or job shadowing opportunities to expose students to different career paths and connect them with employers.
- Employer Engagement: The officer establishes and maintains relationships with employers, industry professionals, and alumni to create networking and employment opportunities for students. They collaborate with employers to promote job openings, internships, and other career-related opportunities, and facilitate employer presentations and recruitment events on campus.

- The post holder must ensure that all work is carried out in professional and timely manner, with appropriate confidentiality and sensitivity.
- The post holder must have a good understanding of and adhere to Safeguarding and welfare requirements as well as how to fully apply the Safeguarding and welfare rules when supporting students.
- The post holder must promptly undertake the required training necessary for the role as well as any institutional training required.
Qualifications:
Essential
- Good Degree in a relevant discipline and/or other equivalent and relevant prior experience
Experience:
Essential
- Direct experience as a key influencer in supporting students to engage with careers and employability.
- Direct experience in student coaching/career guidance support
- Direct experience of managing elements of selection and assessment
- Accustomed to operating in a target driven environment and demonstrable experience of achieving a desired business outcome.
Desirable
- Relevant experience in high volume graduate recruitment/jobs brokerage
Skills and Abilities:
- The ability to listen, provide empathy and act with discretion as required.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate clearly and effectively at different levels.
- Strong presentation skills
- Good IT skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint) including word processing, spreadsheets, and use of databases.
- High resilience and an ability to work under pressure and priorities work to meet jobs brokerage targets.
- Professional customer service delivery to all stakeholders (students, internal staff, employers)
- Excellent knowledge and experience of using information technology and management systems together with strong oral and written communication and presentation skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to work efficiently to complete set tasks.
