We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Operations to lead and oversee our lab and workshop, IT and procurement teams. This role is pivotal in ensuring the seamless operation of these areas, driving operational excellence, and supporting the company’s strategic initiatives.
The Head of Operations will play a critical role in optimising operational processes, managing key operations projects, and ensuring that all operational activities align with the company’s goals and standards. This position reports directly to the Programme Director and the wider Board of Directors, providing regular updates and insights to support decision-making at the highest levels of the organisation.
As a member of the leadership team, you will foster a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration, ensuring that our operations are not only effective but also scalable to support future growth and expansion, including the new Boston office.
Principal Responsibilities
- Lab and Workshop: Supervise the operations of our UK lab and workshop, ensuring safety, efficiency, and the highest standards of quality control.
- Procurement: Supervise the Procurement Officer, leading supplier onboarding, including negotiating NDAs, contracts, completing supplier questionnaires, and managing ongoing supplier relationships to ensure effective performance and compliance. Ensure cost-effective purchasing.
- IT Management Oversight: Supervise the IT Manager, who manages the IT team and software infrastructure, ensuring robust and secure IT operations that are scalable to support future growth and expansion.
- Team Leadership: Mentor and manage the operations team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Health & Safety: Lead Health & Safety initiatives and ensure compliance across the business.
- Process Improvement: Continually improve operational processes across the business to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and scalability, ensuring that all departments adhere to best practices.
- Contract Management: Handle the renewal of client Master Service Agreements (MSAs), ensuring project team awareness and compliance, and manage operational oversight of insurance requirements and renewals.
- Strategic Planning: Develop and implement operational strategies that align with the company's goals and objectives.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the other Heads of Function and the Leadership team to ensure the operations function supports project execution effectively.
- Support Company Growth: Play a key role in supporting the company's growth initiatives, including the expansion into our new Boston, US office.
- International Expansion: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful establishment and operation of the Boston office, aligning with global operational standards and practices.
What We’re Looking For…
Essential:
- Proven experience in an operational leadership role within a similar industry.
- Demonstrated ability to manage laboratory and workshop environments.
- Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure and systems management.
- Experience in procurement processes and supplier management.
- Excellent strategic planning and organisational skills.
- Effective presentation and interpersonal communication skills with internal and external stakeholders.
Desirable:
- Previous experience in the medical device or consumer product industries.
- Degree in a related field.
- Certifications in IT management, procurement, or operations.
- Experience with SAP Business ByDesign or similar IT system implementations.
