About the role
This apprenticeship follows the Embedded Electronic Systems Design and Development Engineer (Degree) Standard, and leads to rolesincludingdesigning and developing electronic circuits, devices, and systems.
As an Electronic Design Apprentice, you will spend your initial training at the Skills Academy producing several electronic projects to develop your skills and knowledge in basic electronic theory, components, basic circuit design, circuit construction and reporting. You will then complete a variety of 6-month placements at AWE. During this time you will also attend college part-time to complete your HND.
On successful completion of your HND, in your final 2 years you will spend your time onfurther placements around the business, where you will also work towards your Apprenticeship End Point Assessment (Degree phase).
Throughout your apprenticeship you will attend several lectures designed to further increase your knowledge and understanding of electronic theory. These include:
- Component recognition
- Component characteristics
- Circuit calculations
- Semi-conductor theory
- Fault-finding techniques
- Testing and measuring

If you have an interest in Arduino or Raspberry PI, Analogue and Digital electronics, as well as designing, building, testing and repairing electronic circuits, then we would love to hear from you!
Entry Requirements:
- HNC (level 4) in Electronics.
- 5 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above including Maths and English
- Applicants must be aged 18 or over, as of 31st August 2025 due to security clearance requirements
- You must be a British National to apply for a role with us.

Start Date Wednesday the 27th of August 2025.
Annual leave will not be granted from 27th August until 3rd October, due to mandatory inductions and the requirement for you to complete as part of your apprenticeship. Any leave approved after this point will depend on the training provider requirements for your apprenticeship and must be agreed in advance.
Duration 4 to 5 years (varies depending on personal performance)
