Purpose of Job
The Collibra Community Manager, Policy & MI role will be instrumental in the integration and establishing of Collibra as a tool, and appropriate best practices across the EMEA Data Office within the EMEA Division of SMBC.
This is a ‘T’ shaped role that will require the individual to have a holistic view of all deliverables within the EMEA Data Governance Team which will include maintaining policies, MI and the ongoing management of the Collibra tooling within the EMEA Data Governance Team.
The candidate must be willing to challenge the status quo in an empathic manner, while helping the wider team to have an ethos of openness and transparency that will help us nurture real business innovation.
Background
The Data Governance Team is a new function that sits within the EMEA Data Office, part of the Operations, Planning and Data Department, covering all EMEA entities (including Securities and Banking subsidiaries) and all datasets. This team is responsible for capturing and implementing the appropriate level of governance for all data across EMEA.
As part of this work, the Data Governance Team recently onboarded the Collibra tool and is now on a drive to capture all Data Governance components as required with the aspiration to collaborate towards a wider, global model, working with the Americas and Tokyo Group Data Offices.
The underlying message for the EMEA Data Office is that as we evolve, the Collibra Community Manager will focus on supporting how we can use Collibra to drive new ways of working and improved business outcomes.

Facts/ Scale
The Data Governance Team within the EMEA Data Office is new to the bank, having taken over from a consultancy that developed the foundations of an operating model. Currently a team of 13, there is ambition to grow significantly over the next 18 months.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain the Data Governance artifacts including Data Governance policies and framework documentation
- Manage Data Governance Team MI including dashboards for Senior Stakeholders.
- Establish Monthly forum to ensure cyclical reviews of Business Terms with Data Governance Managers
- Maintain relationships with System Data Owners to review and ratify fields from source
- Review Data Maturity Levels and drive progress with Data Governance Managers
- Ensure the Business Rule Book is current and correct within Collibra
- Establish Terms approval forum in line with DMF and DMO
- Design a robust and enduring Term/Rule/Control approval process, including the archiving of evidence to prove due diligence where needed.
- Liaise with other regions to ensure consistency across best practices, tooling configuration and business processes.
- Identify and prioritise relevant use cases for EMEA as part of continuous growth and development of Collibra.
- Identify applications within each Data Source and prioritise based on the programme rollout plan
- Liaise and communicate across all functions to ensure Prerequisites for Data Sources are met, managed and configured
- Support and liaise with the Collibra Integration Engineers when connecting Data Sources to Collibra
- Prioritise custom Lineage required and provide requirements for build
- Ensure Lineage is captured correctly working with the business for verification
- Assist in Data Governance Roadmap of Onboarding and Prioritisation
- Support monthly Collibra upgrades and regression testing during implementation
- Attend Collibra project meetings where necessary
- Manage and Maintain the Collibra Assets within the Collibra EMEA Community
- Ability to establish consistent contact with all teams to provide updates, stay on track and report risks and issues timely with proven ability to quickly earn the trust of sponsors and key stakeholders
Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
- Technical problem solving
- Experience of chairing and leading forums
- Experience of navigating IT and other Business Users across the organisation
- Working knowledge and understanding of data governance, data quality, metadata, profiling, analysis, and data management tools.
- Confident stakeholder engagement skills to communicate and achieve buy-in from stakeholders across EMEA
- An understanding of Physical, Logical, and Business data Models
- Experience with Power BI, Tableau and SharePoint
- Proficient in Microsoft applications including Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
Desirable:
- Previous work experience with Collibra in a similar role within Banking
- Experience of SQL Server and Oracle Database
- Knowledge of Data Quality practices and Controls implementation
- Experience of Alteryx
- Knowledge of data related regulatory requirements
- Knowledge of emerging trends and issues within the Data Management landscape

- As the implementation of Collibra is relatively new to the organisation, the role also requires an ability to educate and convince stakeholders at all levels on the essential nature of this role and of the value found with Collibra
