My client is seeking a skilled Automation Engineer to join the team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in writing PLC code across various IEC61131 languages, alongside strong knowledge of Ethernet/Profinet networks. This role requires expertise in bespoke automation machinery, including electromechanical mechanisms, pneumatics, and servo operation.
The Automation Engineer will be involved in all phases of machine design, from electrical circuit design to PLC commissioning and final installation at customer premises. This role also involves intermittent international travel to support installations and upgrade projects.
Key Duties:
- Design and develop new products according to agreed specifications and parameters.
- Engage in conceptual design, detailing, prototyping, testing, and documentation for new machines, including manual creation.
- Execute electrical engineering design and software development on machine contracts.
- Conduct design studies, reviews, and prepare specifications for special applications.
- Complete FAT documents and maintain accurate ‘as-built’ electrical documentation.
- Provide assistance with engineering queries and resolve manufacturing quality issues.
- Travel internationally (approximately 4-5 times yearly, for about 1 week each) to carry out installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting at customer sites, collaborating closely with Service and Aftercare teams.
- Perform additional tasks as required, provided they align with the postholder's competence.
Skills/Experience:
Essential:
Experience in designing electrical control systems for special purpose machinery.
Minimum HNC/HND qualification.
Proficient in Siemens Sinamics Motion Control, AB Compact Logix, Studio 5000, and AB Kinetics Motion Control.
Experienced in commissioning machines according to FAT protocols.
Skilled in producing electrical schematics for panel manufacturing using electrical design software.
Experience in compiling BOMs and uploading to MRP systems.
Ability to provide remote programming support.
Capable of programming HMIs and adapting screens to meet project needs.
Competent in working with end users to confirm functionality specifications and interface requirements.
Experienced in creating risk assessments and designing safety circuits to meet appropriate SIL levels.
Full UK driver’s license.
Desirable:
Experience with AutoCAD Electrical.
Knowledge of safety equipment and standards.
Experience in the setup and implementation of vision systems.
Basic robot programming knowledge.
