1 Safety, Health, Environment & Sustainability
Ensure that all site operations are controlled by safe systems of work defined within internally and externally approved method statements, risk assessments, task sheets and procedures,
Ensure that project environmental procedures are implemented to satisfy contractual, environmental obligations and any necessary third party consents and approvals.
2 Dimensional/Spatial Control
Assists engineers.
3 Workmanship, Quality, Inspection & Testing
Assists engineers,
Works with the teams to create and sustain a culture of “right first time” and nuclear safety.
4 Information, Change Control & Records
Ensures an appropriate design change system is implemented, eg Request for Design Change (RDC), Site Instruction (SI),
Checks and approves / gets approved subcontractor drawings and information,
Implements company standard procedures / technical information and ensure its use where appropriate eg Risk Trades Bullet Points,
Ensure information is available to enable efficient procurement of materials and subcontractors, and for the construction of the Works,
Ensures that contractor designed elements are approved by the main design consultant Implement the Materials Appraisal Form (MAF) approval procedure for contractor designed elements.
5 Permanent Works Materials, Products, Plant & Systems
Sets up systems to manage the approval and testing of the materials, product, plant and systems (including where this requires off site monitoring) such that they comply with the contract requirements,
Works with procurement to ensure the most appropriate materials, product, plant and systems are purchased for the project ensuring programme delays are avoided,
Establishes a wastage process (including site damage and that targets the most costly items) for materials, products, plant and systems.
6 Construction Methods, Practices and Innovation
Assists senior engineers with this as per their job role.
7 Temporary Works/Systems & Cranes
Holds a valid Construction Plant Competence Scheme card (blue “experienced worker” card) for Appointed Person (AP), and carries out the role of Appointed Person when required for Complex Lifts or Man Riding,
Prepares detailed design briefs so that design is right first time,
Approves temporary works designs prepared by others amending and improving as required,
Carries out the role of Temporary Works Coordinator TWC for projects involving complex temporary works ensuring compliance with company procedures.
8 Design Process, Coordination and Management
Uses digital prototyping (3 and 4D) to advantage in the design process,
Works with the designers inputting construction experience, preferred methods and build-ability so that designs suit preferred methods and are buildable,
Works with the designers such that the design deliverables are produced and delivered to programme,
Checks design output to ensure information is clear, achievable, buildable, conforms to preferred methods and is available to enable efficient procurement and construction of the works.
9 Permanent & Temporary Works Design
Works in a construction environment (rather than a design environment) and uses their knowledge and skills of design to inform their decisions eg to make suggestions when asking Technical, Queries (TQ) or Requesting Design Changes (RDC).
10 Engineering Knowledge – Capture, Sharing & Using
Provide value engineering in determining the best solutions to engineering problems,
Have overall responsibility for all technical aspects of a project considering innovations and technical developments and providing feedback on successes and problems encountered, where applicable.
