Due to exciting developments in our service, we are looking to recruit a Speech and Language Therapist (Band 5) to join our growing multi-disciplinary team at Wallace Hospital in Dundee, Scotland. This post is suitable for a newly qualified SLT or someone with an SLT degree who would like to return to practise.
As a newly qualified SLT we will offer you strong support to get started in your SLT career, including the time you need to develop your confidence, work on your NQP Goals and receive regular supervision.
The multi-disciplinary team at Wallace Hospital support those who have learning (intellectual) disabilities, autism, and complex behaviours. The role will support our hospital patients in Dundee. The work is varied and will include direct work with patients, on a 1:1 basis or within groups. You will also have a role in developing communication resources and delivering training for staff
The post is overseen and supported by a highly specialist and lead SLT for Scotland and there is another band 5 SLT within the team. You will work alongside staff, families, friends and carers to deliver high quality care. We are looking for someone who can work 5 days a week in a dynamic environment and enjoys modifying traditional SLT approaches to real time client needs.
Job Role:
As a Speech and Language Therapist, you will deliver an evidence-based SLT service to meet the needs of the client group within a hospital setting. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will develop skills to assess, advise and intervene with the aim of promoting functional communication systems and optimal independence. You will promote good practice and maintain a successful total communication environment. You will be accountable to the onsite Highly Specialist & Lead SLT for Scotland.
We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist with:
- Placement experience OR interest in the field of Learning (Intellectual) Disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorders.
- An understanding of the importance of person-centred planning.
- Willingness to work in line with key national legislation and guidance for the client group
- Understand the importance of team working with a genuine desire to help others
- Good organisational skills
- Ability to take direction from other senior colleagues.

Full induction training is given and you will receive formal clinical supervision every 4 weeks, weekly catch ups with your supervisor and dedicated NQP support every 2 weeks with Cygnet's established NQP support program
You must be a Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered SLT. If you are in a position where you are interested in the job but do not yet have your HCPC registration, please call to discuss. Please note: successful candidates will be required to undergo an enhanced PVG check.
