We'd like you to join us as a Night Nurse Manager - Registered Mental Health Nurse - at our Kings Norton service in Birmingham.
Kings Norton Hospital is a purpose-built adult mental health service with capacity for 32 people. The Hospital supports adults of all genders with severe and complex mental health conditions. In this state-of-the-art hospital we provide high quality intensive treatment, in a clinically safe, caring and secure environment.
The Night Nurse Manager will have responsibility for the hospital at night for ensuring that staffing levels on all wards have the right skill mix and are in line with ladders, support and advise colleagues, to monitor the standards of care given and ensuring that colleagues adhere to ACG standards and policies.
This individual will be required to take on the role of the Night Nurse Manager during the night shift, they will be expected to support other wards with their breaks and provide effective leadership.
The Night Nurse Manager will take a lead role in managing any referrals out of hours, liaise with on call managers, medics and arrange admissions.

What you'll be working:

What you'll be doing:
- To take a handover from all wards including updates on any incidents, staffing levels and actions required to be carried forward.
- To check each ward has the right mix of staff to care for the young people and that all 4 wards are staffed equally.
- Make any required changes to staffing ensuring each ward has an equal allocation of permanent/agency staff, skill/gender mix.
- Attempt to cover any shifts not covered by using the Matrix system.
- Each ward should report all incidents, seclusions, sickness, DNA’s to the Night Coordinator to be recorded on the Night report at the end of each shift.
- Prepare a Night Report detailed below which should be shared with Ward Managers, Matron and Hospital Director
- Visit each ward throughout the night to ensure observations are being carried out and all colleagues are alert.
- Completion of 24 hour reports and CQC notifications alongside other documentation as advised by on call management
- Handover to the Ward Managers/CTLs in the morning.
- The Night Report will include:
- Actual staffing numbers against Budgeted staffing numbers
- Young people on enhanced support and what level
- Any incidents that have occurred
- Any planned interventions that have been missed (e.g. depot medication) including reasons
- Any trips to General or other hospitals
- Anyone on overnight leave
- Any out of hours contractors (e.g. emergency carpenter) that needs to be called

What you'll have:
- A legal right to work in the UK
- Qualified Mental Health Nurse with 2 years plus post registration experience with active NMC registration
- Knowledge of NMC standards and guidelines, requests and professional practices
- Evidence of post registration continuing professional development
- Demonstrates a positive attitude and commitment to change, improvement and quality
- Ability to develop and use flexible and innovative approaches to practise
- Good working knowledge of the Mental Health Act
- Ability to undertake physical requirements of PRICE training
- Responsive and flexible
- Experience in duty nurse role or equivalent.
- 2 years’ experience post registration in mental health and evidence of continued professional development in the relevant field.
- Experience of working as a CTL/deputy ward manager or similar senior nursing role ideal but not essential.
- Experience of working in Acute in-patient setting.
