Turner Lovell is currently recruiting a Cable Systems Design Engineer for a large cable manufacturer within their European Head Office. This global company has seen stellar grown within Europe, and is looking to further strengthen it’s capabilities in the region.
As a Cable Systems Design Engineer, you will be responsible for cable systems and cable design specifications for some of the highest profile projects in Europe. In this role, you will work across a range of offshore generation, interconnector and long-distance onshore transmission (tunnel and ducted) projects.

Key responsibilities:
- Analyse and interpret client requirements, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of project needs.
- Ensure all cable system designs and specifications adhere to the latest industry standards, regulations, and best practice guidelines.
- Develop innovative HVAC and DC cable system designs for both tender submissions and detailed project execution phases.
- Conduct advanced calculations for cable conductor sizing and selection, considering various environmental conditions for both underground and submarine installations.
- Create cable system designs for direct buried, ducted, and cable tunnels, including horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and forced ventilation systems.
- Perform complex calculations of thermo-mechanical and short-circuit forces along entire cable routes to ensure system integrity and longevity.
- Design and produce comprehensive sheath bonding line diagrams and earthing systems to maximize efficiency and safety.
- Develop thorough Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) along with detailed procedures for HV AC/DC cable systems.
Ideal background:
- Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical, Power Systems, Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience in high voltage cable engineering, particularly in the 132kV to 525kV range.
- Strong technical background in cable design specifications.
- Knowledge and experience in HV AC/DC underground cable manufacturing and testing.
- Proficient with design tools / software including CYMCAP, Finite Element Analysis, AutoCAD 2D and Revit.
- Knowledge of CDM regulations and the implications on safety, constructability and sustainability for UK projects.
- Able to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced, growing environment.
