THE ROLE
An excellent opportunity is available at our London office for the position of a Mechanical Engineer with a core focus on Energy within the core Engineering teams. The role is responsible for reducing in-use energy consumption across a central London portfolio, focusing predominantly on commercial office projects within London, while also covering other sectors including hotel, residential and retail.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Multi-Disciplinary Workstream Leadership
Act as Workstream Leader for multi-disciplinary projects, ensuring in-use energy consumption reduction is maintained overtime and applying deep technical knowledge and skills on complex tenanted projects.
Technical Excellence
Stakeholder management and engagement relying on design and construction experience to reduce energy consumption and aid decarbonisation.
Client Management
Manage NDY’s involvement in projects to ensure work is completed efficiently while fulfilling client needs. Identify and engage clients and stakeholders effectively.
Financial Accountability
Provide input for job costing, time plans, and fee preparation in consultation with the Manager and Project Director. Monitor project workloads and advise on resource requirements.
Collaboration and Mentoring
Mentor less experienced team members and aid the management of a small team effectively delegating tasks and sharing knowledge.
KEY CHALLENGES
- Demonstrate ability to effectively communicate with staff at all levels, including technical staff across multiple disciplines and clients.
- Exercise substantial initiative, high-level judgement, and work independently to meet objectives.
- Exhibit well-developed problem-solving skills and maintain an appropriate level of technical competence.
- Working on largely older buildings with minimal information, requiring a heavily reliance on experience and engineering judgement.
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of three years of engineering experience in building services design.
- A recognised engineering qualification.
- Previous project leader/project management experience with multi-disciplinary project teams, including managing project resources and finances.
- Experience designing commercial office buildings is advantageous.
- Highly effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with staff across various technical backgrounds.
- Familiarity with the full range of RIBA design stages, particularly from Stage 1 to Stage 4A is desirable.
