Highway Electrician
Repair, maintenance, replacement, and installation of all associated illuminated street furniture which includes but not restricted to lighting columns, traffic signs, bollards and feeder pillars.
Carrying out various tasks within the titled role ensuring that all H&S & Quality objectives and responsibilities are adhered.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Diagnose and repair faults on all types of highway illuminated street furniture as required.
Carry out Street Lighting Electricity at Work Testing Programme, which involves performing underground and above ground cable tests, in-line with laid down standards and good industry practice.
Erect and maintain all street lighting apparatus in accordance with Industry Standards and the legal requirements of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 and the IEE Wiring Regulations 18th Edition.
Complete comprehensive test and Inspection Certificates to the company Test Specification.
The electrician will be responsible for the operation of a small stock on the vehicle of lamps, tubes, photo electric cells, cut-outs, ignitors, capacitors etc.
Capable by means of training and accreditation to remove DNO fuse carrier from street lighting installation.
Locate fault, by use of specialist equipment, on underground cable network, excavate and repair cable.
Drive and operate tower vehicle working within the safe operating limits of the mechanical boom.
Carry out regular vehicle and lifting equipment checks and report any defects for repair.
Working knowledge of first aid procedures following exposure to burns or electric shock.
Tasks could include tree pruning or making safe roofing or other parts of buildings.
Assist DNO linesmen and cable jointers when working on street lighting tasks.
All electricians are to be contactable by mobile telephone for emergency works such as road accidents, lamp knockdowns, live cables, etc.
Erect and dismantle festive decorations, festoon lighting and external trees.
Maintain high-mast lighting installations.
Maintain floodlighting installations, derived from a 3-phase supply.
Install and remove insulated shrouding to the REC overhead network, as and when required.
The individual
Technically competent with at least 10yrs experience working within Street Lighting
Excellent attention to detail & self-motivated
Ability to work in a team environment and work to tight deadlines
Able to demonstrate a high-level technical knowledge of large complex lighting projects
Demonstrate and show a knowledge of regulations and procedures applicable in all operational areas.
Must show an ability of problem solving when required.
Have knowledge of all relevant Health & Safety legislation
You must be a very good team player and participator.
PERSONAL QUALITIES AND EXPERIENCE
Technical Competences
Essential:
GCSE, or equivalent, in Maths and English.
NRSWA5day Operative Level
IEE Wiring Regulations BS7671
CITB SSSTS Health & Safety Certificate
Full clean driving Licence (together with valid CPC if licenced for over 3.5t )
Street Lighting experience
City and Guilds Level 2 or 3 Electrical qualification or equivalent
