About Us
At Apex Additive Technologies, we are on a mission to democratise advanced manufacturing of metallic components by making it accessible, simple, and sustainable. We aim to create an innovative and environmentally friendly manufacturing industry that benefits our customers in the UK and worldwide.
Job Description
We are looking for a hardworking Materials and Manufacturing Engineer to join our team and play a pivotal role in advancing our capabilities in materials science and advanced manufacturing processes. In this role, you will contribute to the development and optimisation of additive manufacturing processes and characterisation tools, ensuring that our manufacturing techniques are efficient, sustainable, and of the highest quality.
This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams, including design, production, and quality assurance, driving innovation and improving our manufacturing techniques. This is a rare opportunity to develop a unique skillset combining process metallurgy and advanced manufacturing, drawing on our extensive OEM knowledge. With over 10 years of experience as OEMs prior to founding Apex, the learning environment here offers insights and practical expertise that are hard to find elsewhere.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and optimise metallic materials for use in additive manufacturing, focusing on improving mechanical properties, durability, and sustainability.
- Challenge the status quo in LPBF processes through process control and development, refining characterisation techniques for maximum efficiency and minimal waste.
- Conduct material testing, including metallography, mechanical testing, and powder characterisation to validate material performance.
- Collaborate with design and production teams to align materials and processes with project goals and customer requirements.
- Utilise data-driven approaches to analyse manufacturing performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to the development of production standards, ensuring compliance with certifications such as ISO 13485 and AS9100.
- Support new product development by selecting and qualifying novel materials for specific applications.
- Manage projects related to material and process development, ensuring timelines and objectives are met.
Must Have
- A strong passion for advanced manufacturing, materials science, and sustainability.
- A degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Curiosity, a hardworking attitude, and eagerness to learn new techniques and processes.
- A commitment to excellence, integrity, and responsibility.
- A team-oriented mindset with the ability to work collaboratively.
- Experience in material characterisation, testing, and manufacturing process optimisation.
Advantageous
- Familiarity with additive manufacturing technologies, particularly Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF).
- Experience with material simulation software and computational methods for predicting material behaviour.
- Programming experience in LUA, Python, C#, or similar to support process automation and data analysis.
- Experience with CT scanning, metrology, or other advanced measurement techniques.
- Applied experience in data analytics and the use of statistical tools.
What We Offer
- Competitive compensation with opportunities for growth as the company scales.
- An invaluable learning experience in a rapidly evolving field.
- The chance to make tangible contributions to our mission of making advanced manufacturing accessible to all.
