As an integral member of the Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) Team, reporting to the Head of SHEQ and collaborating with other SHEQ Business Partners and specialists, the primary function of this role is to provide expert guidance, assurance, and support on safety matters to depots and departments across Metroline.
The SHEQ BP will serve as the go-to expert and competent advice for all SHEQ matters across Metroline Manchester depots actively contribute to the development, monitoring, and review of safety strategies, management systems, policies, procedures, and standards. Additionally, you will deliver effective safety training and coaching as needed.
Responsibilities
Business Support and Partnering
- Assist the Head of SHEQ in the delivery of Safety Services aims, objectives and agreements including the production and maintenance of Safety Policy, Codes of Practice, Guidance and arrangements.
- Support the Head of SHEQ to empower senior leaders to instigate and take ownership of new initiatives that will create a positive safety culture.
- Develop strong working relationships with operational and departmental teams within the business to meet the highest standards of statutory and legislative compliance and evidence-based practice.
- Act as the competent advice to Metroline Manchester in matters of SHEQ to support compliance and achieve positive culture.
- Advise and assist all staff on matters relating to SHEQ within their work environment.
- Build and maintain key relationships with internal and external stakeholders such as TfGM with the overall aim of working in partnership where appropriate.
Legal and Statutory Requirements
- To provide assurance and advice to Metroline Manchester operational teams, to ensure legal and statutory Safety, Health, Environmental and quality requirements are being met.
- Engage with Depot Teams and others in matters relating to building safety and offer assurances that the built environment is fit for purpose and in compliance with legal and statutory requirements.
- Work with the Metroline community to ensure duty holders are appropriately skilled to deliver exceptional standards of safety performance by supporting learning and challenging safety preconceptions.
Reporting, Data and Insights
- Regularly report to senior management teams on safety performance against KPIs and improvement planning as required.
- Support the implementation of SHEQ Integrated management systems and supporting technologies to meet best practice.
Training and Upskilling
- Contribute to the development and delivery of the Safety Training and coaching in collaboration and partnership with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide advice to the various management grades in how to apply their H&S training to best effect.
Essential Criteria
- Chartered Member of IOSH or working towards.
- Recognised fire qualification/accreditation or relevant experience
- Previous experience of managing health and safety in a substantial and complex organisation.
- Knowledge of significant infrastructure related health and safety legislation including asbestos, legionella, fire and construction
- Evidence of experience in working collaboratively and in fast paced environments
