Purpose of role:
Naked Energy is seeking and experienced mechanical, HVAC or buildingservices engineer to lead the design of renewable heating systems on commercial and industrial buildings. The designed systems will comprise Naked Energy’s Virtu solar heat and power technology, which may be paired with heat pumps, thermal storage, PV and other low carbon technologies to provide low-carbon and carbon-free energy systems for C&I clients.
The successful candidate will lead a small team, and be responsible for design projects from conception to completion, drawing in external engineers from electrical, structural and other disciplines as required. They will prepare costed designs of renewable heat and power systems, including P&ID designs, roof layouts of solar arrays, key component sizing and selection, demand and generation calculations, structural roof- and wind-loading analysis, cost engineering, CAD design, and construction phase planning. They will pay close attention to the health and safety aspects of the design, and will be comfortable signing off designs for which Naked Energy has design liability.
The Principal Mechanical Design Engineer will also produce presentations and reports, participate in client meetings, and engage construction partners to provide costings. They will work with Naked Energy’s commercial team to tender for construction of the designed projects on the client’s behalf.
Role Responsibilities:
Design
• Design safe, reliable and economical renewable heating systems to meet the contractual scope of work and comply with the applicable standards and regulations
• Lead and grow a team of (presently) three engineers
• Sign off of all design work
• Work with minimal supervision
• Work alongside engineers, architects and other groups to develop design briefs
• Work to and uphold the highest health and safety standards
• Present to clients, delivery partners and other stakeholders
• Feed back to product and software teams to propose product improvements that can improve system performance and better fulfil client needs
• Work closely with Naked Energy’s commercial team to provide technical support and promote deal flow
Qualifications & Experience:
• 10 years + in M&E design engineering
• Relevant engineering degree or equivalent qualification
• Confident performing and signing off designs up to RIBA stage 4 and beyond 3
• Experience in engineering drawing and design tools (e.g. Auto CAD)
• Experience in HVAC and/or building services
• Knowledge of standards and regulations relevant to heating and electrical systems for commercial and industrial buildings
• Experience working with clients, architects, other engineering disciplines and construction companies
Desirable: Experience in solar or other renewables
