WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
As our Womenswear Designer, you'll collaborate closely with Lucy, our Founder, to bring a shared vision to life. In this role, you'll thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoying the creative freedom to design in a way that’s authentic and brave. Drawing inspiration from global influences - street style, vintage finds, art, music, and the catwalk, you’ll play a key role in shaping the latest collections. Your designs will reflect our commitment to delivering fresh, versatile pieces that resonate with our brand’s ethos of individuality and inclusivity.
YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:
• Leading and mentoring a small team, consisting of a Print Designer and Junior Designer, across all womenswear product categories, including accessories and footwear.
• Taking full ownership of developing multi-product ranges for both short and long lead time product areas, ensuring versatility, longevity, and inclusivity in our styles, which range from UK size 4 to 30.
• Conducting independent trend research and identifying key directions for product development, sharing daily newness with the design team and building strong, cohesive ranges.
• Collaborating closely with the Buying teams to ensure product development aligns with critical paths and meets financial targets.
• Providing clear, concise design briefs and working with the technical team to advise factories on garment construction, design details, and artwork specifications.
• Sourcing materials and products from the supply base, while building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers.
• Reacting to sales data and market trends to design commercially relevant, fashion-forward ranges that resonate with our brand's ethos and customer base.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
• Creative Visionary: A designer with a keen eye for trends, who is passionate about creating versatile, inclusive, and fashion-forward womenswear collections, with an understanding of the NFD brand and customer. Experience in creating graphics and prints is essential.
• Leadership Skills: Experience managing and mentoring team members, fostering a collaborative and inspiring environment where creativity can flourish.
• Commercial Awareness: A designer who can balance creativity with commercial viability, reacting quickly to sales data and customer feedback to deliver ranges that meet market demands.
• Technical Know-How: Strong understanding of garment construction and the ability to translate ideas into clear, detailed briefs for suppliers and technical teams.
• Collaboration & Communication: Someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, working cross-functionally to bring collections to life on a tight critical path.
• Systems: Highly skilled in design software, including Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe, and CAD.
• Problem-Solver: Ability to adapt and find creative solutions in response to challenges, whether it's working with suppliers, adjusting to feedback, or fine-tuning designs based on real-time data.
• Global Inspiration: A designer who actively seeks inspiration from diverse sources - whether street style, vintage shopping, art, music, or the latest catwalk trends - to bring fresh, innovative ideas to the range.
