About the role:
The Health and Safety Business Partner will play a critical role in supporting our customer focus journey, integrating, and advising the Customer Experience Team, Flex team and Workplace Services ensuring that H&S compliance is being achieved. They will also provide technical knowledge and support to investment teams to enable compliance and due diligence in all aspects of health and safety, primarily relating to compliance in commercial real estate and H&S industry leading innovation. The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Health and Safety Business Partner and the wider H&S team and responsible for providing excellent technical health and safety advice to various departments and all our customers (internal and external), with a focus supporting on developing customers fully managed spaces and occupied buildings.
Main duties include, but not limited to:
- Provide technical H&S knowledge and support to key stakeholders to enable compliance primarily relating to a large commercial property portfolio and support our journey of creating inclusive and accessible spaces within our portfolio through H&S design and management.
- Complete regular Health and Safety compliance evaluations, inspections, and audits as per the annual audit schedule, record outputs to ensure compliance across the portfolio and liaise with relevant teams to ensure all actions are completed.
- Undertake research analysis and benchmarking for H&S issues in the infrastructure delivery communicating findings and recommendations within clear, coherent, and concise reports.
- Assess and support any possible liability and due diligence risks to the business by providing advice and support to the relevant teams in an evidence-based format.
- Support the business and work closely on all matters relating to Health and Safety and Fire Safety legislation and associated key responsibilities
- Undertake competency and resource checks for contractors and the supply chain working with teams to ensure that their contractors are working within GPE's Management of Contractors standards.
- Support the Senior H&S Business Partner and wider H&S team in any investigation of accidents, incidents, and near-miss events and share opportunities for improvement.
- Maintain accident statistics within the management system, analyse trends, and propose (and take) remedial action where necessary, ensuring a non-blame culture and learning from opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Work proactively with departments and key stakeholders to establish and maintain a program of continuous improvement in the management of behavioural health and safety within their areas of responsibility and accountability.
- Lead by example and actively promote GPE's safety vision in every property asset/development/operation on-site, ensuring exemplary standards to all our customers.
- Support the H&S team in ensuring deliverables on key performance indicators (KPIs) on proactive H&S, including collating data for the reporting of the same on a quarterly dashboard to relevant committees and Board.
- In-line with statutory requirements and GPE standards, support and lead the creation, development and review of specific property and corporate H&S policies, procedures and supporting documents.
- Support the team in the successful integration and application of the online health and safety management system, completing periodic auditing of the system against property compliance.
- Create content and deliver training for specific H&S topics which support the implementation of the safety management system requirements
Experience required:
- Minimum of Level 6 NEBOSH National Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety Management or equivalent
- Chartered member of IOSH or equivalent professional body or working towards accreditation
- Proven track record of health and safety within organisations with a large property portfolio background (property, corporate construction, real estate, retail, leisure, hospitality etc.)
- Experience of working in a Health and Safety real estate in a proactively facilitating and leading change and supporting the customer
- Customer focused style and approach, with an engaging, likeable communication character
- Excellent understanding of all Health & Safety legislation and mandatory and statutory requirements for building compliance
- Collaborative team player with an adaptable and pragmatic approach. Used to working within a multi stakeholder environment
