DIGITAL SPECIALIST JOB SPECIFICATION
The Digital Specialist will provide pivotal support to the digital activities of Wanderlust. The role will involve both creative and operational responsibilities across the publication including digital campaign delivery, website content production, design, digital marketing and video. The ideal candidate will be a “digital all-rounder” with a great eye for design, digital marketing proficiency and experience in video production and editing.

Wanderlust is the longest running travel magazine in the UK and the largest by circulation. Through the print magazine (published six times per year) and wanderlustmagaizne.com, Wanderlust delivers an original mix of inspirational and informative travel stories to readers globally. Since 1993, Wanderlust prides itself on being the most trusted and iconic travel magazine which produces awe-inspiring, impactful travel stories through the lens of sustainable, purposeful travel.
Under new ownership and leadership since 2020, Wanderlust has undergone rapid transformation in recent years. A core focus is continuing to innovate the most far-reaching digital proposition, whilst continuing significant investment into the print product which now has an increased circulation and presence in over 70 international markets.
Working mostly from home with occasional work in the office and international travel, the role will support the delivery and development of our digital proposition, take a leading role in the development of new video services, and to support departments on digital operations.
Key responsibilities include:
· Collaboration – and regular reporting to the Creative Digital Director and Chief Operating Officer.
· Content production - producing digitally-rich, inventive, and immersive online articles for publication on wanderlustmgazine.com – for both editorial and commercial campaigns.
· Product development - innovative thought and technical know-how to enhance the visual appeal and functionality of online content.
· Online advertising – manage our ad-operations through Google Ad Manager.
· Paid social media – best-practice and know-how when it comes to setting up, monitoring and delivering campaigns across social media for commercial, editorial and subscriptions marketing.
· Reporting – supporting the commercial delivery team and COO on reporting of campaign performance.
· PPC – lead our PPC efforts for commercial and subscriptions marketing.
· SEO – collaborating with an agency and digital editor to support our digital audience development.
· Video – support in the development and delivery of a new Wanderlust video proposition with filming, editing and support of the video strategy.
· MetaTravel – support the development and delivery of 360-video immersive campaigns and production of virtual environments and experiences within the Metaverse.
· Virtual events – management and responsibility to set-up and deliver online virtual events.
· Social media – working with the Digital Editor to devise and deliver impactful content for social media to support growth.
· Design assistance - Support with magazine, proposals, marketing and general artwork design – as required.
Role profile abilities include:
· Experience with project management tools (like Asana, Trello)
· Expertise in content management systems (with essential experience of using Wordpress)
· Intermediate HTML and CSS knowledge
· Understanding of UI/UX design principles
· Proficiency with Google Ad Manager
· Understanding of ad serving logic
· In-depth knowledge of social media advertising platforms (Meta Ads Manager)
· Proficient in analytics tools (Google Analytics)
· Experience working with keyword research tools (SEMrush, Google Keyword Planner)
· Knowledge of SEO tools (Google Search Console)
· Understanding of SEO tactics
· Trained with Adobe Premiere Pro/Final Cut Pro – or other video editing software
· Experience with social media management tools (Sprout Social, Hootsuite or similar)
· Strong content planning skills
· Familiar with online graphic design tools (Canva)
· Proficient in graphic design software (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, inDesign)
· Knowledge of layout design for both digital and print format
· A passion for travel and the values of Wanderlust.
· Ability to manage a heavy-workload, prioritise and deliver to deadlines.
Salary – £35,000-£45,000 (subject to experience). Plus, 25 holiday days per year in addition to public holidays and SimplyHealth insurance.
