The Role of the Assistant Psychologist & Job Duties
One of the core aspects of the role is to be a primary point of contact for new clients coming into The Chelsea Psychology Clinic. On a daily basis the clinic receives multiple enquiries from new and existing clients that require sensitive management to ensure a positive client journey through the service. You will be conducting 15-20 minute triages with clients of the clinic who will be requesting information about the service and discussing their presenting difficulties with you on the phone. Following training from the team, you will be able to effectively triage clients enabling you to signpost them to the appropriate type of appointment, book them into the system and provide them with information about the clinic. You might also be required to collect payment and insurance information during the booking.
Further tasks would include assisting in administration, data entry, and clerical tasks, in particular the collating and analysis of user feedback and outcome measures. When opportunities arise, you will assist in observing assessments, cofacilitating group work, having your own individual 1:1 skill sessions with clients, collection of statistics and development of audit projects and assisting with the development of new service. The aim is for you to work within the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures; working with a driven and dynamic team of clinical, counselling and forensic psychologists, psychiatrists, assistant psychologists, a marketing department, business development and administrative staff.

\tKEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Clinical
· To conduct up to 20 minute telephone conversations with new enquiries to the clinic to establish what the person’s suitability is for the service and decide on the most appropriate treatment option. This includes an assessment of treatment needs and goals, risk assessment and a general mental health screen.
· When needed, assisting the clinic coordinator in matching new clients to the most appropriate psychologist for ongoing sessions.
· Cofacilitate assessments and sessions alongside clinicians where appropriate.
· Cofacilitates rotating group therapy modules.
· Facilitating individual skill sessions.
2. Administrative
· To deal professionally with telephone enquiries, taking messages and using initiative to take follow up actions when appropriate and help to reassure
· To be a first point of contact for clients and to liaise with them appropriately post assessment in collaboration with the clinic’s referrals’ coordinator.
· To assist in the design and management of electronic spreadsheets / databases as required. To collect and collate client feedback.
3. Teaching, training and supervision
· To receive regular fortnightly clinical supervision in accordance with professional practice guidelines. Where possible, to gain wider experience of professional psychology within a private clinic and online setting through attending clinic meetings focusing on CPD and additional trainings through the clinic.
· To participate in a fortnightly AP reflective practice led by the Clinical Lead.
· To take part in a weekly meeting led by the Senior AP to discuss the needs of the clinic and address any difficulties that arise during the week.
4. Management/recruitment/policy/service development
· Where possible, to attend meetings in which service developments regarding the improvement of client care are planned and discussed. To participate in clinical governance initiatives as agreed by the post holder’s professional manager.
5. Service evaluation
· To assist in the design and implementation and data entry of audit projects.
· To undertake data collection, analysis, the production of reports and summaries, using IT and statistical programmes.
· To undertake searches of evidence-based literature and research to assist qualified clinical and counselling psychologists in evidence-based practice in individual work and work with other team members and to further develop new pathways in the clinic.
· To assist in the development of new services when needed through the above points in order to ensure smooth launch of new service.
6. General
· To contribute to the development and maintenance of the highest professional standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD training and development programs, in consultation with the post-holder’s professional manager. To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping and report writing in accordance with professional codes of practice of the British Psychological Society and clinic policies and procedures. To undertake specific administrative duties as required.
