Main duties of the job
This will be one of our biggest and most high-profile programmes of digital transformation, so we are looking for someone with energy, passion and the resilience to manage the complexities and risks involved in this critical programme of work.
You will join our Digital Leadership team and Corporate Nursing Team as the Chief Nursing Information Officer (CNIO). The post holder will provide crucial leadership that integrates clinical expertise with technological innovation to enhance patient care and operational efficiency in the clinical environment.
In this role you will be pivotal in the liaison between our digital experts by bringing all key stakeholders together to support the development of a digitally enabled nursing, midwifery and Allied Health Professional workforce, encompassing the varying needs of digital transformation, with a specific focus on enabling improved clinical workforce digital literacy.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will support the Trust to acquire, implement and sustain the required cost-effective digital systems to provide excellent clinical care to its service users, in conjunction with its partners throughout the wider health and social care community.
The post holder will provide clinical guidance and advice on the configuration, implementation, and adoption of the Trust's digital solutions to ensure the delivery of high-quality health and care services.
The post-holder will ensure the implementation of the digital strategy supports the clinical aims of the organisation and improves outcomes for our patients, staff and NHS.
They will contribute to the development of new models of care and advise on the role that digital technology can play in the Trust's clinical service review and transformation plan.
The post holder will provide clinical advice and guidance, working collaboratively with key stakeholders to ensure the appropriate and successful use of digital solutions and systems within GEH, facilitating safe and effective care.
The post holder will promote innovation and champion the development of a clinically appropriate digital culture, as an enabler of transformation and quality improvement across the organisation.
The post holder will be one of the key GEH representatives in the internal, local, regional and national digital collaborations.
Responsible for strategic and operational leadership in the development, deployment, re-engineering, optimisation and integration of clinical information systems to support patient care.
Provide clinical leadership to advance nursing's utilisation of clinical information systems consistent with the goals and objectives of GEH nursing initiatives.
Translate clinical needs into the Digital Strategy and communicate the aims of the strategy to peers through a variety of methods.
Lead on the assessment of requirements and implementation of strategies to meet current needs, future direction for informatics within the Trust and across transitions through the continuum of care.
Lead the Transformational Change agenda with nursing and clinicians, driving key change initiatives and projects to build productive, sustainable, fit for purpose digital clinical environments.
Advise key stakeholders on implications of national and local digital policy/strategy development from a clinical perspective.
Act on their own initiative to deal with contentious and sensitive issues.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Postgraduate study/Qualification in Clinical Informatics
- Educated to Master's level, working towards completion of Masters programme or equivalent experience
- Teaching Qualification (7307, 998 or Mentoring and Assessing)
- Current active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
- Leadership/Management Qualification/training

Experience and Knowledge
- A depth of experience as an acute clinical nurse, demonstrating expertise in the nursing process, documentation and fundamentals of care
- Experience of ensuring that patients, staff and the public are engaged as an integral part of digital transformation and that safety and experience are considered at every stage
- Ability to impart complex information and knowledge and/or present to others in a clear and concise manner
- Demonstrable commitment to and focus on quality and high standards to improve patient care and outcomes
- Knowledge and experience of leading significant change, delivering tangible and sustained improvements
- Evidence of supporting and facilitating service improvement processes in health and/or social care.
- Evidence of programme/ and or project management experience
- Knowledge of Information Governance, national and professional standards of practice or other regulations
- Evidence of recent relevant continual professional development
- Knowledge and experience of participating and promoting research in clinical practice
- Evidence of clinical leadership in the field of Digital Technologies
- Experience of implementation of part or whole of an EPR in an acute hospital in UK
