This is a contract role for 12 weeks where your primary task it to update an Engineering Capability Dashboard (on excel). All roles within the Chief Engineer Group (central engineering group) have been assessed for engineering technical competencies needed to fulfil the role such as Design management, assurance, digital engineer etc. There are numerous new roles that need to added to the Capability Dashboard – the applicant will complete the framework by liaising with heads of engineering discipline to correctly assess the technical companies and then complete the process and governance to publish the capability dashboard.
The role reports to the Chief Engineer and supports driving the performance of the Chief Engineers team through effective management of the business and programme particularly supporting delivery of key priorities, certain elements of the internal management of the business and delivering defined projects as required.
Work Situation
The office location is London Euston, they operate a flexible hybrid working model working 2 days a week from the office. Overall this is a very flexible modern employer who cares about delivery not where you deliver from, however, if you wish to be based front the office more you can.

Duties & Responsibilities

Develop, manage and report on the annual business plan, covering key activities, milestones, risks, workforce, resources and budget – taking mitigating actions where necessary;

Lead the development and deployment of functional processes and policies on behalf of the Chief Engineer ensuring that processes are integrated with the rest of the organisation.

Lead the Technical Governance team in the production of reports and analytics as required by the wider HS2 programme, ensuring the effective and timely collection of data from the department;

Accountable for responding to non-technical requests and activities within the Chief Engineer team;

Accountable for facilitating the flow of team information to and from the leadership team, communicating decisions, chasing actions etc. as required;

Accountable for the management of commercial contracts relating to Chief Engineer activities

Accountable for the management of standards across Engineering

Line management and co-ordination of the Technical Governance team

Special Projects/tasks for the Chief Engineer.

Leading or facilitating senior management team meeting

Lead the development of all business processes on behalf of the management team, interfacing with others to ensure that processes are integrated with the rest of the organisation;

Own and co-ordinate the controlled deployment of policies and procedures across the Chief Engineers department and monitoring compliance to them;

Ensure an adequate flow of information to and from the Department Management Team, communicating decisions, chasing actions, etc. as required;

Manage a programme of staff engagement activities both within the Chief Engineers department and with others to co-ordinate directorate communications and feedback processes;

CANDIDATE CRITERIA
Candidate Background
Open to candidates from a range of backgrounds – Technical Governance Manager, Quality Assurance, Technical Assurance, Project Engineers, Business Manager, HR, and have worked for or with a publicly funded infrastructure organisation (Network Rail, HS2, TFL, Highways England etc) and understand governance.
Ideally you will have experience developing an Engineering technical competence framework or be from an engineering background (project Engineer etc) and so have a knowledge of the competences required to work in the Chief Engineer department of a publicly funded client organisation.
