You’d be coming in as a Production Engineer focussing on stripping out waste and improving efficiencies as the business grows on a global scale for a 6 month period.
Historically, their products were 100% bespoke and made to order. They’d like to keep elements of this as they win a lot of business based on their ability to customise every product, however in order to scale, they’re looking to standardise certain elements of their design and manufacturing process; you’d be responsible for creating documentation and SOPs for these.
You’ll be using your knowledge of lean principles to identify areas for improvement across the business and leading projects to implement these changes. The business was once very traditional, and as much as they’ve been on a ‘lean journey’ for a good few years, they’re not exactly at Toyota’s level, and based on it being high value but low volume they’re not exactly in need of an expert in Six Sigma – just a hands on engineer with a decent understanding of lean willing to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in.
You’ll have the opportunity to get involved in some of the design work too (jigs, tooling and fixtures) so if you have experience with SolidWorks then that’d be great, although any CAD package would do - I’d imagine you’re switched on enough to pick up a new one. You’ll also need some sort of background in assembly as this is one of the areas you’ll work closely with.
