A Main Civil and Utilities contractor is seeking a Materials Buyer to boster thier procurement team based from their Head office in Kent
As a Materials Buyer you will work within the Procurement Department but also work closely with Estimating, Tender/Bids and our delivery teams. You will be reporting to the Procurement Manager and this role is key in ensuring our business remains competitive in the market.
Key Role Deliverables:

Focusing on UK supply you will support the Pre-Con Team on pricing and securing best in market offers from suppliers for key materials and products.

Manage all communication and assessment of supplier quotations and asses the most competitive in market.

File and distribute enquiries, quotations and comparisons within across the company to ensure that all relevant departments are updated.

Liaise with operations teams onsite to ensure orders are placed and fulfill their day-to-day buying requirements.

Ensure that all materials purchased are of appropriate quality and price and are delivered in a timely manner.

Update relevant staff about the status of their request and delivery and maintain regular contact with the Procurement Manager on matters of materials bought.

Maintain and nurture key relationships with suppliers across the materials market

Be responsible for negotiating key service level agreements on an annual basis ensuring suppliers are providing the compnay with the best possible service.

Maintain up to date central electronic filing records of all relevant documentation.

Liaise with and offer support to other Depts, i.e., Finance, HSEQ, Accounts, estimating etc as and when required.

Be an integral part of the procurement team and support all members under the supervision of HOD.

Assist in the development and maintenance of an online Supplier Database

Continuous 360 review of suppliers’ performance and communicate this to the wider business.

Negotiate and agree competitive costs, monitoring the quality of service provided.

IT literate, able to work across multiple CRM systems.

Excellent attention to detail, able to follow administrative processes.

Conduct an inventory assessment ensuring that all products unused are sent to our company storage point and added to our centralised stock database.

Experience:

An understanding of buying materials within a construction industry in particular within the Civil engineering and Utilities sphere.

Have established relationships within the industry which can be leveraged to bring in new suppliers.

Exceptional communication skills, able to negotiate with suppliers and liaise with Project Teams.

A personable and approachable demeanor able to build strong working relationships with both suppliers, internal and onsite teams.

A drive to support the business to be competitive on pricing in market.

A minimum of 5 years in a buying role.
