One of our local authority clients are currently recruiting for an Arboricultural Officer. This is a 3 month temporary contract with possible further extension based on budget and performance.
Main Purpose of Post/Job Summary
To ensure the effective maintenance and management of all Council owned tree stock, and the provision of all relevant arboricultural advice and policy to members of the public, work colleagues, Councillors and any other interested parties.
To participate in activities that are essential in delivering the Council’s statutory duties in relation to arboriculture, including undertaking tree asset and condition surveys, producing instructions for specialist contractors and monitoring their performance in order to facilitate effective contract management.
Duties and Responsibilities

To undertake surveys and inspections of trees and accurately record all data collected on the asset management programme and supporting system(s)

To be responsible for overseeing and delivering projects and programmes, such as tree planting initiatives, community participation and service development tasks

To provide professional advice and support on all tree related matters in accordance with Council strategies, current legislation, industry best practice and published guidance

To assist in the commissioning and procurement of services directly related to the post, preparing relevant documentation, ensuring the timely conduct of procurement procedures in accordance with legislation and Council policy

To assist in the development of contracts managed by the section, work closely with colleagues and contractors to integrate and improve services

The preparation and reporting of established Performance Reports to the Arboricultural Manager on a routine basis in line with established performance management frameworks

Assist with the preparation and implementation of the annual tree planting and watering programmes

Deal with Councillors, members of the public, representatives from other organisations and other Council staff whilst achieving the highest levels of service delivery, customer and stakeholder satisfaction

To contribute as required to performance review and improvement measures on an ongoing basis

Communicate and promote London Borough of Merton’s vision, values, objectives and priorities effectively to staff, partners and the public; including the attending of Public meetings, Stakeholder meetings, Residents / Customer forums as required

To advise and represent the Council on matters relating to litigation in respect of trees, including dangerous trees subject to the provisions of all relevant legislation

Take part in the training, organisation and familiarisation of procedures and routines of peers and new staff in the relevant areas of responsibility

Undertake any other duties commensurate with the level of the post, as required to ensure the efficient and effective running of the Division
