One of our local authority clients are currently recruiting for the Head of SEND Travel Assistance. This is a 6 month temporary contract with possible further extension based on budget and performance.
Main Purpose of Post/Job Summary
The Head of SEND Travel Assistance is a pivotal role within the Children’s Department, responsible for strategically and operationally managing the commissioning, brokering, and delivery of all aspects of travel assistance for eligible Lambeth residents with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This role oversees a significant budget exceeding £5 million, ensuring robust financial management and adherence to budgetary constraints.
Duties and Responsibilities

Conduct a comprehensive review of the current SEND Travel budget and expenditure patterns, identifying areas for potential savings and efficiencies.

Evaluate existing travel assistance arrangements and initiate discussions with service providers to explore alternative options where appropriate.

Implement a monitoring framework to track the performance of transport services against agreed service levels and standards.

Engage with key stakeholders to gather feedback on current service provision and identify areas for improvement or enhancement.

Establish clear communication channels with the Transport Monitoring & Finance Officers and Transport Support Officer to ensure alignment with departmental objectives and priorities.
