Finance Officer - Details of the Position:
Salesian College is seeking to appoint an experienced Management Accountant to assist with the provision of an effective financial reporting and control function for the College. Reporting to the Finance Manager you will take a leading role in financial planning, budgeting, monitoring and reporting, preparing monthly management accounts, financial forecasts and the annual budget. You will also be required to undertake month and year end tasks, analyse financial information and will work closely with budget holders across the College to ensure financial targets are met.
Finance Officer - Job Description:
Key Tasks
- Financial management and reporting
· Preparation of College and departmental budgets, cash-flow reports and re-forecasts
· Preparation of monthly management accounts including variance reports.
· Control of balance sheet reconciliations.
· Calculation of accruals and prepayments for monthly and year-end accounts and posting month end journals.
· Assist with the year-end accounting process.
· Ensure the robustness of the financial systems and that income and expenditure is accurately recorded.
· Provide the Finance Manager / Bursar with appropriate financial information, advice and assistance to support decision making processes.
· To undertake bank reconciliations monthly.
- Development and maintenance of efficient financial systems and controls
· To help develop the College financial systems.
· To assist with the maintenance and development of the nominal accounting structure (chart of accounts).
· Provide advice and support for staff on financial processes and systems.
- Accounting
· Prepare the monthly and year-end payroll (include pensions) in conjunction with the external payroll bureau. To reconcile pay costs to budget.
· Maintain the Fixed Asset Register and calculate depreciation in line with accounting policy.
· To assist in the process of the collection of parent debt.
· To be responsible for overseeing and advising on budgets for school trips.
· Reconciliation and posting of control accounts including petty cash, credit card and catering.
· To help ensure the integrity of the nominal ledger and that purchase orders and invoices have been correctly coded.
· Check of all utilities and services invoicing and the provision of consumption data to the Maintenance Manager / Bursar for use in energy saving initiatives.
