About the programme
During 2024, the STEP programme will transition from a UKAEA programme to UK Industrial Fusion Solutions Ltd (UKIFS), the company responsible for delivering the UK's prototype fusion energy plant.
This role is an exciting opportunity to join a high-profile programme where your work will not only help to build support for a new energy source that could be transformational for climate change and energy security, but will also inspire local communities that surround West Burton - a former coal-fired power station site - to be part of the STEP and fusion journey.
We are seeking a dynamic Digital Content and Communications Officer to join our high performing STEP Communications Team to help raise awareness and increase engagement for new digital channels. The role is integral to enhancing internal and external communications, ensuring our STEP messaging is consistent, engaging, and aligned with our organisational goals.
What is Required to be sucessful:
Content Creation and Management:
- Develop, edit, and publish high-quality content for various digital platforms, including websites, blogs, social media channels, and email newsletters.
- Collaborate with different STEP teams to create content that supports the programme
- Maintain an internal and external content calendar to ensure timely delivery of materials.
Internal Communications:
Work closely with the Internal Communications Officer to:
- Support the creation and distribution of internal newsletters, memos, and other communications to keep employees informed and engaged.
- Develop and manage intranet content, ensuring it is up-to-date and reflective of company news and initiatives.
- Facilitate communication initiatives that support employee engagement and organisational culture.
External Communications:
Work closely with the External Communications Officer to:
- Develop and implement social media strategies to enhance brand presence and engagement
- Monitor and respond to social media interactions, ensuring timely and appropriate communication
Website
- Own the STEP website, ensuring content is always current with timely new content published with SEO in mind,
Email Distribution / Database:
- Manage newsletter and email distribution using industry standard distribution and database management tools.
Analytics:
- Monitor and analyse performance metrics of digital content, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.
- Stay updated on digital communication trends and best practices to continually improve our digital presence.
Collaboration and Support:
- Support the planning and execution of internal and external events, webinars, and other communication activities.

Skills and Experience
Essential
- 3+ years' experience in digital content creation and social media management.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Proficiency with content management systems (CMS), social media platforms, and analytics tools.
- Strong project management and organisational skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Creative thinker with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable
- Experience with graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) and video editing software.
- Knowledge of SEO best practices
- Possible participation in out-of-hours events community engagement events
