You’ll be joining a large main contractor as a Sustainability Manager that operates within the construction industry. They boast an annual turnover approaching £ ½ billion a year. They are an equal opportunities employer.
Job Summary
Your main role as the Sustainability Manager is to ensure the organisation meets its Net Zero project commitments along with its strategic Decarbonisation and Net Zero commitments.
Duties & Responsibilities
The key duties for the Sustainability Manager role are;

Develop and implement the Decarbonisation/Net Zero strategy and routemaps towards the delivery of the sustainability strategy. Ensure milestones and objectives are achieved and report on progress to senior key stakeholders.

Work in partnership with other areas of the business to ensure energy efficient and carbon reduction business practices are embedded throughout the organisation to achieve the implementation of the Decarbonisation strategy.

Key to this sustainability Manager role is the ability to work with other teams (e.g. Designers, Estimators, Commercial and Operations) on energy efficient and carbon reduction initiatives – identifying opportunities for new ways of working that differentiate us from our competitors.

The improvement of our data management and analysis processes is key, enabling a better understanding of our environmental impact from energy and carbon use and can manage it more efficiently going forward.

Work closely with Procurement team to advise on new opportunities to decarbonise within our supply chain, ensuring these requirements & targets are clearly referenced in contract documents.

Work in partnership with project teams to ensure upfront embodied carbon reduction business practices are embedded throughout the project life cycle.

Provide energy and carbon data in line with corporate reporting requirements, including calculation and reporting of Scope 1,2 & 3 carbon emissions

Ensure reporting of energy performance in line with governance, legislative requirements, and commitments

Investigate and capitalise on repeat business opportunities on live sites.

To maintain and nurture strong relationships with external parties

Ensure operations are conducted in accordance with the Health & Safety policy.

Any other duties consistent with the role of Sustainability Manager as may be required from time to time.
Qualifications/Experience
-
A degree (or equivalent) in Environment & sustainability related discipline.

Minimum of 2 years relevant industry experience

Experience with LCA Software & producing WLCA Stage 4 and Stage 6 Reports (Preferably One Click LCA).

Familiarity with SBTi, Planet Mark & GHG Reporting Protocol

Awareness of and adherence to company policies and health and safety requirements

Experience gained in complex and geographically dispersed construction or built environment businesses

Ability to undertake project planning, project management and work to budgets
Competencies

OneClick LCA.

RICS whole life carbon assessment (WLCA) standard.

UKGBC Net Zero Framework.

Commercially astute with a strong understanding of the construction process.

A self-starter able to demonstrate high levels of initiative, tenacity and self-motivation while comfortable working with a high degree of autonomy.

Has strong problem solving and considered decision-making skills.

Methodical, analytical and organised with an attention to detail

Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
