Automation & Control Engineer
To ensure the optimal performance, reliability, and safety of our test rigs and production equipment by applying engineering principles and practices in the design, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and improvement of electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, and control systems.
Based on site at our Slough Head Office, it may also include some travel, depending on the project.
Essential Functions:
- Designing and implementing industrial automation systems to improve efficiency and productivity whilst with cross-functional teams to identify automation needs and develop solutions.
- Programming and configuring PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), Ladder Logic, Allen Bradley, SCADA and HMIs (Human Machine Interfaces) for automated processes.
- Troubleshooting and resolving issues with automation systems, including hardware and software components.
- Conducting regular maintenance and upgrades of automation systems to ensure optimal performance.
- Exploring and implementing new ways to automate the systems and programming new automated components using either C++ or Python
- Industrial Ethernet network design and testing
- Factory acceptance test specification documentation
- Generation of risk assessments and method statements
- On site installation, testing and process commissioning.
- Training documentation
- Developing and implementing safety protocols and procedures for automated processes.
- Training and providing technical support to operators and maintenance personnel on automation systems.
- Monitoring and analyzing data from automation systems to identify areas for improvement and optimize performance.
- Staying updated with the latest advancements in industrial automation technology and recommending innovative solutions to enhance operations.
- Instrumentation & Sensor Calibration
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Minimum of a Degree in Mechatronics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or similar field
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in Automation Controls Engineering or similar field
- Experience in Designing and Implementing Automation Solutions for manufacturing Process.
- Proficiency in Programming languages such as PLC, Allen Bradley, Ladder Logic, SCADA and HMI
- Knowledge of in hydraulics, pneumatics , programmable logic controllers , electrical circuits , electrical machinery and human-machine interfaces
- Experience in electrical and pneumatic schematic design.
- Proficiency in scripting languages, like C++, Python or Shell
- Data Base Design – Data Analysis & Measurement systems using Oracle, MySQL & SQL
- Experience with test rigs, AI and machine learning
- Manufacturing Techniques: Thorough knowledge of the 5S, Lean, Agile, and Six Sigma methodologies for continuous improvement and high-quality output.
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment and perform complex system tests.
- Strong leadership and problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate well with other members of the development team.
- Understanding of the ISO 12100:2010 functional safety ASIL levels and automation of test cases
