About the role:
Cadent Gas Ltd is seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Tax to lead our Tax team. This key leadership role involves managing, reporting, and advising on all tax-related matters for Cadent and the broader Quadgas group.
The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in tax accounting and demonstrate a proven track record in managing tax functions within a corporate environment. This role requires a strategic thinker with the ability to navigate complex tax regulations and provide insightful guidance to senior stakeholders.
What you'll get to work on:
Managing the provision of corporation tax disclosures for the Group’s statutory and regulatory accounts including submissions to our economic regulator.
Preparation and submission of corporation tax returns, negotiating tax positions to be adopted with advisors as necessary.
Oversee the preparation and submission of the Group’s VAT return and annual PAYE Settlement Agreement (PSA) including the monitoring and assurance of key employment tax risk areas.
Targeting cost savings within the parameters of the tax strategy and risk appetite of the group through maximising available tax reliefs on capital expenditure and R&D spend.
Control tax risk and manage the annual Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) process.
Lead on education and training of key business units on relevant tax matters
Providing management information in respect of the Company’s tax liabilities (Budgets, forecasts etc.)
Take a lead role in routine interactions with HMRC
Proactively planning ahead to identify opportunities and risks, developing and implementing plans to respond ensuring best outcomes for the group, and actively participating in sector specific and cross-industry working groups to seek out and apply best practices.
Supporting and developing a team of 3 tax professionals Skills and Experience Qualifications
Recognised accountancy qualification
Additional tax qualifications (i.e. ATT/CTA). Practical Experience
Detailed knowledge of direct taxation in particular capital allowances legislation
Ability to understand and assimilate the impact of tax law changes and communicate these to stakeholders
Detailed understanding of the regulatory framework in which Cadent operates
Working knowledge of employment and indirect taxes
Well organised to be able to meet tight statutory deadlines and excellent influencing skills with strong written and verbal communication skills
Has an understanding of business systems and processes and the operation of controls within those systems
Negotiating experience with HMRC. What’s In It For You
