Belmont Recruitment are currently looking for a Lead Teacher to join Doncaster Children's Trust on an initial 3-6 month temporary contract. This role is working Monday to Thursday 8am to 4pm and Friday 8am to 10am, totalling 32.5 hours per week (term-time).
Duties and Responsibilities:

To supervise and provide guidance to learners accessing EPIC learning alternative provision.

To develop a sound understanding of the school curriculum, alternative provision and pastoral care system.

To develop strategies and policies which assist in the identification of early signs of disengagement and contribute to specific interventions to encourage re-engagement with the curriculum and school life.

To embed those strategies in day-to-day student activities by training and briefing other staff.

To support the student support team to monitor/identify: attendance and internal/external truancy, learners at risk of exclusion, learners with low self-esteem/motivation, learners with family and school issues which impact on their school life learners underachieving academically.

To liaise with the Project Lead to identify an agreed caseload of students to work with and to initiate projects and re-integration plans.

To respond to unplanned classroom incidents which require intervention.

To establish and develop effective 1:1 mentoring and other supportive relationships with learners and to provide encouragement to engage in out of hours learning and development opportunities.

To facilitate the withdrawal and re-integration of students.

To be prepared to be the first contact in relation to child protection issues e.g. bullying, students becoming homeless, parental complaints and providing an appropriate first response.

To oversee the development and implementation of personalised action plans for groups and individual learners based on a comprehensive assessment of their strengths and needs.

To develop and implement strategies for overcoming barriers to learning i.e. behaviour, motivation, aspirations and academic achievement. This will include the development of 1:1 mentoring material for personal and shared use.

To contribute to the sharing of good practice between individuals, local networks and partner agencies to enhance pastoral care provision.

To liaise with external agencies where appropriate in the cases of Substance Misuse, Sexual Health Awareness, Bullying, Self-har, Mental health e.g. CAMHS, Child Protection.
Requirements:

Teaching Qualification Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DET) / PGCE or a Cert Ed.

2-3 years’ experience of working with young people (and their families) demonstrating high quality effective support to children with BESD.

Understanding of principles of child development and learning processes and in particular, barriers to learning.
