School Business Manager

Salary: £67,270 - £73,215 per annum + Benefits
Contract: Permanent, Full time
Hours: 37 hours Monday to Friday

School Business Manager - Aim of the Post:
The School Business Manager oversees financial, legal, and regulatory compliance and drives strategic development within the school, including its children's homes. This role leads professional services, business, and financial strategies for the Bradstow community.
Key Duties:
Leadership & Management
- Support the Principal and Senior Strategic Group (SSG) in developing and implementing innovative practices in professional services, ensuring efficient and systematic policy execution.
- Advise the SSG and Governing Body on business initiatives and strategic planning, playing a key role in organizational development.
- Manage the Professional Services Department, including staff like the Site Manager, HR Manager, Finance Manager, and Kitchen and Housekeeping Manager.
- Oversee administrative, recruitment, financial, premises, and IT functions, ensuring compliance with Children's Home Regulations, statutory legislation, and local policies.
- Lead strategic projects such as Health & Safety, risk management, Schools Financial Values Standard, building projects, and fundraising initiatives.
- Undertake additional duties as directed by the Principal.
Finance
- Collate and present budgetary and business information to the Governing Body, SSG, and Wandsworth Borough Council.
- Develop and manage budgets, providing accurate financial advice to stakeholders.
- Lead financial management to ensure the organization's long-term sustainability and resource allocation.
- Ensure financial systems meet the Schools Financial Values Standard and best practices, with clear accountability and regular audits.
Personnel
- Ensure Human Resources policies are fully implemented and regularly updated in line with statutory requirements and Children's Home Regulations.
- Ensure compliance with statutory and Local Authority requirements for staff pay and conditions.
- Play a key role in employee relations, including investigating disciplinary matters or grievances.
Premises & Facilities
- Manage school facilities, including buildings, vehicles, and equipment, ensuring compliance with financial and tendering regulations.
- Supervise the Site Manager and Data Manager.
- Act as Information Risk Officer
- Develop and implement an annual maintenance plan with a five-year projection.
Housekeeping and Catering Services
- Supervise the Housekeeping and Catering Manager, ensuring the provision of nutritious meals and high-quality cleaning services across the school.
Child Protection and Safeguarding
- Maintain vigilance on child protection issues, ensuring the welfare and safety of children, and report concerns to the designated Safeguarding Lead.
- Manage and mitigate risks of abuse or violence, safeguarding children and vulnerable individuals.
- Stay informed on relevant legislation and policies, ensuring compliance with practices such as the Children's Act, Health and Safety, and Data Protection.
School Business Manager - Qualifications and Experience
• Management/Business degree or professional qualifications and/or significant experience within education.
• Accounting (ACA, CIMA, ACCA, CIPFA or equivalent) or School Business Manager Qualifications or working towards one of these.
• Continued professional development in relevant professional areas and/or leadership.
Experience:
• Experience of working at a senior level within a multi- disciplinary team in a school/academy, educational establishment or service organisation.
• Experience of initiating forward planning and strategic proposals and then managing strategic plans and influencing decision making.
• Experience of budgeting, forecasting, procurement and management of fixed assets.
• A track record of using technology to improve financial processes and the use of systems.
• Experience of ensuring strong governance and effective risk in all matters.
• Experience of providing effective financial oversight for capital projects.
• A track record of effective leadership and line management.
