Apple Recruitment are recruiting for a Tradesperson (Mechanical) – Band 5 on behalf of the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust.
Job Purpose:
Working within the Trust’s Estates Services team, the purpose of the Tradesperson [Mechanical] role is to carry out a wide range of planned and unplanned tasks, ensuring the safe, effective and economic installation and maintenance of the Trust’s engineering systems and physical assets.
The jobholder will install, maintain, service, fault find, diagnose, repair and reinstate into service a range of complex plumbing and mechanical, plant, equipment, pipework infrastructure and fittings. The jobholder will be employed to work on equipment appropriate to their core specialist skills.
The jobholder will be suitably trained to acquire elements of other trades skills with the intention of reaching levels of flexibility and competence to enable them to perform specific skill elements where appropriate.
Job Description:

· Carry out a wide range of planned and reactive mechanical maintenance and installation tasks in a safe, effective and economic manner.

· Carry out unplanned maintenance which may include diagnosing and repairing faults for items such as, but not limited to:
Ø Heating and Plumbing Systems including Building Management Systems
Ø Automated manufacturing or process engineering systems (e.g. laundry or catering).
Ø Specialist Ventilation Plant
- · Undertake planned maintenance checks for items such as, but not limited to:
Ø Specialist Ventilation Systems
Ø Medical Gas Pipeline Systems
Ø Steam Boiler Systems
- · Install/assemble items such as, but not limited to:
Ø Sanitary ware
Ø Brassware
Ø Laundry Equipment
- · Respond to urgent reactive maintenance jobs such as, but not limited to:
Ø Drainage Infrastructure Issues
Ø Plant failures such as Steam Boiler resets
Ø Disruption to Heating and Water Supplies
- · Perform the role ‘Competent Person’ in relation to a range of specialist engineering systems as defined by the Health Technical Memoranda in work areas such as, but not limited to:
Ø Water Safety
Ø Ventilation
Ø Medical Gas Pipeline Systems
· Prepare plant such as steam boilers and calorifiers for statutory inspections including testing as necessary.
- · Carry a Trust communication device e.g. pager/mobile phone, radio, tablet, etc.
· Carry a Trust allocated mobile device as part of the departments CAFM System for effective and efficient management of FM labour resource to enable optimisation of mobile live work scheduling and have the ability to use a range of computer based systems and developing technologies for this purpose.

· Participate and use the Trusts Time Management Software to record work activities.

· Participate and use the Trusts Compliance Management Software to complete maintenance checks.

· Communicate technical issues to work colleagues and explain technical issues to other staff and patients.

· Use equipment manuals to diagnose faults and maintain equipment.

· Use drawings and manuals to diagnose faults and maintain plant and equipment.

· Use appropriate personal protective equipment to carry out their duties.

· Carryout minor electrical repairs and safety checks.

Essential Criteria:
Applicants must, by the closing date for applications, have:

Working knowledge and experience in the examination and maintenance of LPHW heating plant, distribution and control systems.

Working knowledge and experience in the examination and maintenance of ventilation and/or air-conditioning plant and systems.
-
Working knowledge and experience in the installation and maintenance of industrial and/or commercial hot and cold water plant and plumbing distribution systems.
-
Working knowledge and experience in the installation and maintenance of sanitary ware tap and shower assemblies and thermostatic mixing devices.
-
Working knowledge and experience in maintenance of foul and storm internal/ external drainage systems.
-
Working knowledge and experience of undertaking tasks of other engineering trade groups.
-
Must have completed a formal apprenticeship as a Mechanical/ Maintenance Fitter or Plumber.

In addition to his/her apprenticeship, the applicant must hold a relevant qualification at least at NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) together with a minimum of 3 years post apprenticeship experience (see above for definition of Experience*)

Hold ‘Competent Person’ certified training as defined by the Health Technical Memoranda in the following work areas:
· Water Safety
· Ventilation
· Medical Gas Pipeline Systems
Candidates without training listed in item 9 only must complete within 12 months of appointment.

- Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment. This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post.
