One of our local authority clients are currently recruiting for an Accountant. This is a 3 month temporary contract with possible further extension based on budget and performance.
Main Purpose of Post/Job Summary
This is a senior role in a small Local Government finance team and will cover a broad range of technical accounting duties to support the Head of Finance.
These tasks may include Collection Fund accounting, Strategic Capital Finance and support to Major Infrastructure Projects.
Duties and Responsibilities

Co-ordinate and monitor the overall capital/revenue budget to the agreed deadline

Development of Medium Term Financial Forecast for budget process and analytical review/production of technical aspects

Provide leadership and management in team

Develop and mentor team members

Provide technical advice to all levels of stakeholder

Production of statutory accounts within 2 months of year end

Co-ordinate the budget monitoring of Capital/revenue monthly and in depth reporting quarterly to Council Leadership

Prepare and collate quarterly forecasts, challenging budget holders. Prepare narrative and a summary of risks and opportunities outside of the forecast. (mainly Management Accountant)

Co-ordinate the closedown of accounts at Year-end including production of the annual Statement of Accounts (mainly Corporate Accountant)

Manage production of statutory returns

Advise stakeholders on technical financial matters

Advise stakeholders of impact of changes to legislation in a financial context

Financial Lead on commissioning/projects
