Omne of my my clients in Hampshire is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their medium sized Building Services team. The role of a Mechanical Design Engneer within MEP sector:
- Attend project meetings with Clients and other Design Team Members, Contractors etc.
- Carry out condition surveys, feasibility studies, report writing for Building Services projects
- Carry out site surveys for projects, to obtain all relevant information required for carrying out scheme design.
- Carry out detailed scheme designs enabling competitive tenders to be obtained for the works.
- Write specifications for the works.
- Correspond with other design team members and the Client on technical issues.
- Carry out calculations, both manual and by using computer based systems.
- Provide budget costings as and when required.
- Comment upon tenders received for projects.
- Comment upon Contractors’ installation/working drawings.
- Answer Contractors’ queries during construction/installation period.
- Attend site progress meetings as and when required, together with monitoring Contractor’s standards of workmanship and materials, together with progress against overall construction programme.
- Prepare list of snagging/outstanding works at appropriate time(s) during construction/ installation period.
- Witness final testing and commissioning carried out by Contractor.
- Assist when required, in agreeing interim application for payment
Other job requirements:
In addition it will from time to time, be necessary to guide, assist and supervise junior design staff. When undertaking such a task, and the job holder notices areas of performance within the junior staff, that could clearly be assisted by some training, these training requirements should be communicated to the Partnership’s Senior Management.
With regard to the job holder’s own performance, any feelings of technical skill shortages should be communicated to the relevant Partner at the first available opportunity.
All technical work should be carried out in accordance with statutory regulations and comply with the regulations of any applicable and relevant Institutes (ie CIBSE etc.). All conduct should accord with such Institute’s requirements for professional behaviour. Any breach of such conduct requirements will be regarded as gross misconduct; and be dealt with under the Practice’s disciplinary procedure.
It is the job holder’s responsibility to comply with all Health and Safety regulations on site as well as within the Practice’s office.
