Senior Estimator is to head up the team/division and drive better systems/processes (which they don’t currently have in place). Lots of scope to grow with the Senior Team with the possibility of Directorship.
To manage, mentor and grow the Estimating team, to produce priced tenders that are accurate, clearly detailed, competitive, and returned within deadlines. Make sure price-build-ups are clearly identified and submitted from the Estimating team to Senior Estimator, Directors and wider Contract team.
Maintain good relationships with existing and prospective clients and professionals to promote further tender invitations.
Key tasks & responsibilities;
Tenders

Carefully inspect tender documentation. Analyse exact requirements and identify areas of risk and inaccuracy, as well as opportunities.

Provide a detailed measurements and Bill of Quantities (where necessary)

Work with traditional methods of appointment as well as negotiated contracts and two-stage tendering.

Rate structures to be made available for verification and amended if required.

Arrange clear specifications, BoQ’s & relevant drawings for issuance of enquiries to trade contractors & suppliers. Monitor enquiry processes.

Undertake quotation analysis comparisons and produce recommendations for inclusion in priced tenders.

Contact appropriate persons to arrange site inspections. Visit site and take record notes and appropriate photographs.

Using standard prelim forms, produce specific management and running cost allowances for new projects. Discuss construction sequence and overall programme with Contract team. Consider construction and sequencing methods.

Check and Issue build-ups and assumptions to the Contract team for assessment prior to Director adjudication.

Make sure the team are assisting or completing the tasks above depending on their level

Identify, train and mentor other Estimators to help them to grow

Budgets/Cost Plans
- The same process applies, albeit the degree of accuracy required will be subject to the timeframe and information provided.
Adjudications

Present tender build-up to the Directors and Contract team.

Present overview of the project, construction assumptions, and any other information relevant to the tendering process.

Carry out adjustments to the tender based on adjudication proceedings and complete the tender documentation for submission by the due date.
Handovers

Collate all tender information and build-ups and complete estimator’s written report. Arrange an appropriate meeting date with Contract team.

Attend meetings as necessary to ensure that all aspects of the project, trade contractors costs, suppliers costs and assumptions are understood.
General
-
Provide general support to Contract team as and when required.

Contact new suppliers & trade contractors to develop company supply chain.

Assist others in selection of materials and trade contractors.

Work alongside those responsible for sales & marketing to grow enquiry levels.
