Duties of the Occupational Health Advisor:
Assist in Delivering Occupational Health Services: Support the delivery of a high-quality, consistent, and effective clinical lead occupational health service for the council and island schools.
Promote Workplace Health & Wellbeing: Foster and maintain a positive health and wellbeing climate within the workplace.
Manage Referrals and Clinics: Oversee triage management referrals and schedule occupational health adviser clinics
Handle Occupational Health Referrals: Manage occupational health referrals through face-to-face, telephone, and paper-based methods.
Collaborate with External Providers: Work in partnership with external occupational health providers to ensure the effective delivery of services.
Provide Managerial Guidance: Offer advice and guidance to managers on interventions and adjustments to support the management of health conditions within the workplace.
Specialist Advice on Medical Matters: Provide specialist occupational health advice on general medical matters within the employment context, including the applicability of the Equality Act.
Report Preparation and Record Maintenance: Prepare reports and maintain accurate health records in accordance with professional guidelines and Council policies.
Attend Meetings and Case Conferences: Participate in meetings and case conferences to provide expert advice on occupational health matters.
Develop Health Screening Programmes: Design and implement health screening programmes.
Coordinate Health Surveillance and Immunisation Programmes: Coordinate and deliver health surveillance (e.g., audiometry, HAVS, skin surveillance, night workers) and immunisation programmes (e.g., flu vaccinations) within the workplace.
Design and Deliver Health Promotions and Training: Create and present promotions, presentations, and training sessions on employee health and wellbeing, stress awareness, and management of sickness absence.
Requirements of the Occupational Health Advisor:
Registered Nurse (General or Mental Health) with a degree or diploma in occupational health or an equivalent recognised qualification.
Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
Relevant experience working within an occupational health clinical setting.
Proficient in occupational health case management.
Authoritative knowledge of occupational health policies, procedures, and best practices.
Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills, adaptable to different audiences.
Ability to gain the respect and confidence of professional and management colleagues.
Ability to compose clear reports, correspondence, and other documentation.
Excellent attention to detail.
