Head of Training and Qualifications
Location: London / Hybrid
Salary: £50,000 - £53,000 per annum
This role would suit someone with experience in managing design, delivery and assurance of training courses and qualifications. It would suit somebody from the further or higher education sector wishing to move into the third sector.
The Role
To manage the relationship with the university partner for the TOPRA MSc and manage the course delivery and administration in accordance with the standards required by them and TOPRA’s business needs.
To support members and learners (MSc students and apprentices) with their course/programme application, planning and progress.
To support the director of professional development in ensuring compliance with ESFA, OFSTED and internal quality assurance processes for the apprenticeship programme.
To provide additional support for TOPRA professional development activities as required.
The role may require working in the UK or abroad and overnight away from home for a number of days. This will be managed and supported in line with staff policies such as expenses
Key Accountabilities
The main responsibilities of the post holder are shown below. The post holder will also be expected to perform ad hoc tasks from time to time as requested by the associate director of professional development and chief executive.
MSc Programme:
Ensure the MSc programme is compliant with university quality requirements.
Manage the relationship with the university through the collaborative partnership leader
Review and advise on the reports of any external examiner, moderator, Validation Unit QA or similar person or body
Apprentice Programme:
Review OFSTED and EFSA communications
Prepare documents for the apprenticeship oversight group such as apprentice progress data and ESFA Accountability Framework data
Develop and monitor delivery of the quality improvement plan
Learner Support:
Answer learner queries and provide support during and outside of modules or for any part of the apprentice programme
Review extension requests, SACs, suspending studies, appeals against marks etc
PhD Students:
Manage and respond to queries
Liaise with the PhD supervisor(s) to record progress
Module Leaders and Speakers:
Provide pedagogical feedback to speakers and module leaders.
Advise and, if appropriate, deliver training to speakers and module leaders
Science Council:
Oversee and assure Professional Registration process
Committee Support:
Support the following committees including production of agendas and minutes:
Module leaders
Student representatives
Feedback:
Review feedback from delegates and speakers and provide reports to the ADPD including recommendations on solving any emerging/historic issues or blockages for learners
Marketing and promotional activities:
Liaise with marketing and assist in the preparation of promotional information
Management information:
Supply up-to-date information on learner progress and course uptake to inform budgetary, marketing and other management decisions
Budgets:
Work with the ADPD and Financial Controller to put together the draft budget for specific events or activities
Skills and Qualifications
A degree in a science subject at minimum an MSc level is required, and an advanced degree is strongly preferred. A postgraduate degree in higher education and qualifications (academic or as part of continuing professional development) in regulatory affairs would be an advantage
Experience in higher education quality assurance and delivery is required, preferably at a Course Director/Module Leader level
Strong preference will be given to candidates who also have experience in regulatory affairs, however experience in other parts of the drug or device development field would be sufficient
Experience with vocational education (apprenticeships) is desirable
Understanding of processes and policies associated with higher education provision, as well as of pedagogic theory
Understanding of regulatory affairs (Medicines or Medical Devices) is an advantage, as is knowledge of adult education provision
Strong planning and prioritisation skills with ability to multitask
Effective and clear communication (written and verbal)
Excellent Customer Service skills alongside strong commitment to quality and compliance
Ability to collaborate, influence and manage expectations with people at all levels from administrative staff to CEO level
Excellent organisational and administrative skills including record keeping and attention to detail
Strong financial awareness such as developing a budget for approval
Suitability to work with apprentices and vulnerable people including acceptable DBS record
General IT skills including MS Office (eg Word mail merges and Excel reporting). An aptitude to learn new software/portals and experience of customer databases, webinar and eLearning platforms will be an advantage
Willingness to learn and ability to work in a team to support delivery of overall team or organisational objectives
