OB DESCRIPTION
Our client is currently seeking a skilled Planning Officer to join their team on a contract basis in the South West. This role involves managing a diverse and complex caseload of planning applications, offering critical support in development management and town planning.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Processing and managing a varied and complex caseload of planning applications, including major development projects
Negotiating with developers and their agents to achieve optimal outcomes
Drafting detailed reports for Planning Committee and delegated decisions
Providing support and guidance to officers handling planning applications
Undertaking monitoring, compliance, and other planning functions within agreed timescales
Preparing appeal statements and representing the Local Planning Authority as an expert witness during hearings and public enquiries
Defending the Local Planning Authority's decisions in connection with planning and enforcement appeals
Responding promptly to enquiries from developers and the public, ensuring services are efficient, reliable, and comply with relevant legislation and policies
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Experience in development management and town planning
Strong understanding of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures
Proven ability to negotiate and communicate effectively with developers, agents, and the public
Excellent report writing and presentation skills
Ability to manage a varied and complex caseload efficiently
Experience in preparing appeal statements and acting as an expert witness
Strong organisational and time management skills
