Job Vacancy: Assistant Accountant (Local Government)
Contract Duration: Contract, 8 Months with the possibility of an extension.
Working Hours: 37 hours per week, 09:00 - 17:00
Pay Rate: £14.91 Per Hour PAYE

Job Purpose:
To maintain bank accounts and bank reconciliations, support the Financial Accountant with treasury matters and administer the insurance process and all claims against the Council
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
To positively support and deliver the vision, values and strategic objectives of the Council's services through providing constructive and timely advice on financial matters and identifying innovative solutions as appropriate.
Make a major and sustained contribution to develop, drive forward and implement the necessary changes to make the Council an excellent Authority.
Develop and maintain working relationships with top management and other senior officers, other Council services, external agencies and peer groups working corporately and cooperatively to ensure the service is at the forefront of innovation and change.
Represent and promote the Council on finance issues at appropriate local, regional and national forums. Maintain and develop working relationships with professional bodies and other groups to ensure effective representation and promote meaningful networking.
Actively seek continuous improvement in the performance and development of the Finance Service and facilitate best value in service delivery.
Act as an ambassador for the Finance Team by showing professionalism, high personal standards of integrity and courtesy at all times. Promote this culture throughout the organization.
The post holder must be flexible to ensure the operational needs of the Council are met. This will include the undertaking of duties of a similar nature and responsibility as and when required, throughout the various workplaces in the Council.
Organise, deliver and participate in training events to improve the skills knowledge and understanding of financial and non-financial managers/staff.

Responsible for carrying out staff appraisals including the implementation and monitoring of staff development plans, objectives and appraisal targets Key Requirements:
To be AAT qualified or working towards achieving the AAT qualification.
Experience in using and maintaining a corporate bank account.
Experience in using a financial management system for enquiries and transaction processing.
Five years of practical experience in a financial services environment.
Previous experience working within a local government finance role is essential.
Proficiency in SAP and social care finance systems, including Controcc or Mosaic.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and regulations.
Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
