Performing Arts Technician
Location: Brighton College
Salary: £23,000 - £25,000 per annum (dependant on experience)
Brighton College is seeking to appoint a Performing Arts Technician on a Term-time, permanent basis.
The Performing Arts Technician will support the departments of Dance, Drama & Music in their day-to-day operations for lessons, performances, and other events.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and manage daily ensemble set-ups and take-downs of orchestras, bands, choirs, and chamber ensembles across Brighton College for the 35 weekly rehearsals in the Sarah Abraham Recital Hall, Hordern Room, and other venues;
- Provide logistical and technical support for all music events held annually taking responsibility for those that occur in venues other than the Cairns Theatre;
- Assist with set-ups and take-downs for non-musical events in the Sarah Abraham Recital Hall, including house assemblies and external lectures;
- Maintain an updated inventory of technical & musical equipment and ensure all equipment, is in good working order;
- Repair, maintain, and tune guitars and drum kits as needed;
- Repair and maintain leads, mics and power packs for stage pianos, amps, and guitars;
- Oversee the recording suite within the Sarah Abraham Recital Hall;
- Assist in managing, maintaining, and operating the College's Technical equipment across the College;
- Assist with the delivery of all lighting and sound aspects for GCSE and A-level examination performances and assist on all College productions;
- Provide technical support as required for academic drama and music lessons and other events taking place in the Performing Arts facilities;
- Provide technical support to facilitate the smooth running of all College performances, assemblies, live events, Open Mornings, Options Evenings, and taster events;
- Offer front of house services for events during term-time as directed by the Theatre Operations Manager;
- Adhere to the College's health and safety requirements in handling Technical and Performing Arts equipment;
- Promote and safeguard the welfare of the children and young people with whom you come into contact;
- Any other reasonable management request.
Person Specification:
Experience and knowledge of technical work in a theatre or entertainment environment;
Proficient Logic user;
Knowledge of recording equipment, video, microphones, recording techniques and enthusiasm for producing high quality recordings is essential;
Knowledge of AV equipment and video/audio editing software;
Understanding of the maintenance needs of music equipment;
Ability to work unsupervised and to take responsibility for own actions;
Ability to be proactive in seeking solutions to enable conclusion of tasks;
Ability to remain calm under pressure, organise time effectively, creating work schedules, prioritising workload, and meeting deadlines;
Actively fit to work alone in moving instruments and music around the college;
The ability to think ahead and draw up schedules of review and follow-up, as necessary;
Ability to work accurately with an eye for detail;
Flexibility.
Hours of Work:
You will be required to work 40 hours per week. This will include early mornings, evenings and weekends. This is a term-time (35 weeks) plus 5 weeks appointment (40 weeks total).
Weekly hours will be agreed with the Theatre Operations Manager via a rostering system issued three weeks in advance.
Remuneration:
The salary for this role will be £23,000 - £25,000 per annum dependant on experience.
Holidays:
Holiday entitlement is included in the salary for this role. All holiday is to be taken outside of the working weeks.
