The Design Manager will lead and manage external design consultants, design subcontractors, and construction team inputs on projects. This role ensures the delivery of accurate, commercially viable, and buildable design information in a timely manner, aligning with project contract conditions, budgets, and regulations.
Role Overview: The Design Manager is responsible for driving the design process, from the bid stage through to construction, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards. This role supports pre-construction bid processes, manages design consultant appointments, and coordinates with the construction team to deliver robust and competitive designs.

Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage external design consultants and subcontractors.
Deliver complete, accurate, and commercially viable design information for construction and procurement.
Ensure design compliance with project contract conditions, budgets, and regulations.
Develop and maintain BIM principles and procedures.
Participate in pre-construction bid processes, ensuring robust commercial processes during tender stages.
Innovate and provide solutions during bid stages to create bid-winning opportunities.
Review tender information on D&B projects to identify risks and opportunities.
Manage design consultants and ensure their performance aligns with the project’s requirements.
Support the construction team in preparing design information for procurement and construction.
Attend project meetings and work with site managers and quantity surveyors to develop optimal solutions.
Manage the appointment and performance of consultants, ensuring they remain responsible for their designs.
Support construction delivery and commercial activities.
Ensure designs meet tender allowances and identify value engineering opportunities.
Provide necessary support to obtain third-party approvals, such as Building Control and BREEAM.
Lead and manage the design process to produce compliant designs with requisite approvals. Experience & Skills Required:
Proven experience in design management within the construction industry.
Strong understanding of BIM principles and procedures.
Ability to manage external design consultants and subcontractors.
Excellent knowledge of construction processes and regulations.
Strong commercial acumen and ability to innovate during bid processes.
Experience with managing design compliance with project conditions, budgets, and required regulations.
Effective communication and leadership skills.
