Job Description: Director of Highways Operations
Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced Director of Highways Operations to lead our client's expansion and operational excellence initiatives in the highways sector. This senior role requires a strong background in highways management and extensive industry connections.
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer
Salary: £six-figure per annum + performance-related bonus
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
Develop and execute comprehensive business strategies for highways infrastructure projects and maintenance
Conduct market analysis to identify emerging trends and opportunities in highways technologies and construction
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align highways initiatives with overall company goals
Business Development
Utilise existing relationships to open doors for new opportunities within the highways industry
Identify and pursue high-value contracts and partnerships with government agencies and private sector clients
Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and in key client meetings
Operational Management
Lead and motivate cross-functional teams to deliver exceptional results in highways operations
Oversee project management, ensuring quality, safety, efficiency, and client satisfaction
Manage budgets and resources effectively to maximise profitability and operational efficiency
Innovation and Compliance
Drive innovation in highway design, construction methods, and maintenance techniques
Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards, including safety and environmental regulations
Implement and maintain best practices for sustainability and environmental stewardship in highways operations
Relationship Management
Establish and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers in government and private sector
Provide regular reports and updates to senior leadership on performance metrics and growth initiatives
Qualifications and Experience:
Proven track record in highways operations and management (minimum 15 years' experience)
Established network of contacts within the highways and construction sectors
Demonstrated success in winning contracts and opening new business channels
Strong leadership, negotiation, and business development skills
Deep understanding of highways infrastructure, construction technologies, and maintenance practices
Track record of successful P&L management in large-scale infrastructure projects
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field; Chartered Engineer status preferred
