This Head of Accountancy Practice or Senior Accountant role, will serve as the statutory accounts technical expert to ensure timely completion of statutory accounts and compliance-based outputs. This role is pivotal in maintaining high standards of service and accuracy, and for senior hires, includes leadership and team development responsibilities.

Role Overview: The Senior Accountant will oversee client preparations, ensuring compliance and accuracy. The role involves providing reliable tax and business advisory services, delegating tasks to junior team members, and reviewing their work. It requires a deep understanding of client needs and the ability to seek innovative improvements within internal processes. If you are coming in at the more senior end of this open experienced opportunity & have previous team leadership and management experience, you will also manage and develop a team to deliver exceptional client service from day one.
Key Role Responsibilities:
Oversee client preparations to ensure compliance and deadlines are met.
Provide accurate and reliable tax and business advisory services.
Delegate work to team members to build business capability and capacity.
Review work prepared by your team, including tax computations, VAT returns, and accounts.
Understand client needs and advise accordingly, seeking opportunities to extend services.
Meet and work with clients looking at Commercial opportunities and wider offerings
Seek opportunities for innovation and continuous improvements within internal processes.
Work on ad hoc projects as required.
Experience & Skills Required:
Experience working as a Senior Accountant, Accountancy Manager or Head of Accountancy type position.
Qualified ACCA/ACA (or equivalent).
At least 6 years post-qualification experience, ideally 10+ years PQE.
Experience in a practice environment, preferably in a high-growth small to medium practice.
Expertise in the preparation and review of annual statutory accounts under FRS 105 and 102 (1a). Experience with LLP and Charity Accounts is preferable.
Strong knowledge of accounting and tax standards.
Proficiency in accounting/tax software and CRM systems.
Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written.
Significant experience presenting to clients or senior stakeholders.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Good project management skills with a record of delivering projects to time, quality, and financial deadlines.
Commercial acumen and the ability to build client relationships.
Excellent expert working knowledge of MS products in particular Excel but also competent in Word, PowerPoint and confident in navigating and utilising IT and accountancy software.
Sound commercial awareness.
Excellent attention to detail and highly developed analytical skills.
Demonstrable experience of providing professional and appropriate verbal and written communications with both internal and external customers at all levels.
Solid experience in effectively organising and coordinating multiple priorities whilst achieving tight deadlines.
