Your role
As an Assistant Technical Surveyor, you can expect to be tasked in the following areas:
- Supporting the current surveying team during routine condition surveys and repairs within approved external contractors, ensuring our equipment fit for purpose.

- Liaising extensively with colleagues within the External Construction and Refit Cell, Engineering Office and external contractors.
- Working alongside the Technical Surveyor (Electronics) in support and delivery of contracted works, RNLI asset testing and inspection.

- All of the above should be achieved with Health, Safety and Environment aspects in mind at all times.
About you
You will need to be a confident individual with experience of communicating both face to face and remotely to manage the expectations of stakeholders at all levels.

- HNC/HND or equivalent qualification/experience in Electronics (Desirable).

- Experience of working within a marine environment
- Experience of providing internal & external staff/contractors with support and guidance on technical issues either remotely (phone or email) or on-site.
It would also be advantageous for candidates to have experience in mechanical engineering systems, knowledge of diesel engines, gearboxes, hydraulic systems, transmission and DC electrical systems.
The ability to communicate well with people at all levels is important, together with an assertive but tactful personality, eye for detail and good organisational skills.
As the primary focus of this role will be assisting with on station surveys, by the nature and spread of RNLI assets you will be travelling long distances within the UK and Ireland, with nights away from home on a regular basis, sometimes independently. This can average from two to four nights away per week, so the successful candidate should be prepared and available for this. When not travelling, the role is homebased, and a vehicle will be made available to carry out your duties.
This is a great opportunity to take on an exciting, diverse role that offers responsibility and is both challenging and rewarding.
This post is a home-based role, and therefore as an essential car user, a vehicle would be made available for duties.
This post requires a valid driving licence.
As this is a sea-going appointment, you will need to satisfy the Institution's medical and eyesight standards.
