My client in Maidenhead is a leading innovator in the drone technology sector, dedicated to advancing the frontiers of aerial innovation.
Role Description:
They are looking for an experienced mechanical design engineer to join their existing production and R&D teams across various projects.
The ideal candidate will be experienced in both rapid prototyping and design for manufacture-oriented tasks. Day to day tasks involve designing components for new aircraft, production improvements, jigs and fixtures to increase capacity and efficiency, mechanical testing and reviewing etc.
Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK without visa sponsorship.
The role suits an engineer who has a broad skillset and enjoys spending time hands-on building and testing as much as designing. The following is a list of preferred skills.

Experience in aerospace or mechanical design experience ideally directly pertaining to vehicle design or robotic systems, preferably in the UAV space.

CAD experience (SolidWorks, ideally).

Working knowledge of composite materials, pros/cons against isotropic materials, tooling & fixtures, resin systems, and manufacturing processes.

Building & reviewing 3D models in SolidWorks of composite components, structural assemblies, and other metallic & plastic parts.

Experience developing parts and structures for weight-constrained applications.

Using FEA software, backed with hand calculations to ensure parts are designed mass efficiently with appropriate safety factors.

Working with and supporting suppliers to ensure parts are on time and designed to best suit their needs.

Assessing the right production processes for different parts to ensure cost-effective, high-quality components.

Transition of prototype mechanical designs into production.

Working with production technicians to make improvements to existing assembly lines to increase throughput and efficiency.

Assuring designs for manufacturability, assembly, and serviceability.

Producing engineering drawings for in-house and sub-contracted parts.

Interface with other engineering groups on collaborative projects to deconflict integration issues and execute against the integration plan.

Implementing and maintaining processes to ensure the mechanical design team are working efficiently and to best practices.

Experience with mechanical design of battery packs or battery enclosures.

Adept use of hand tools, power tools, and machining equipment and teaching proper technique to juniors.

Evidence of successful and novel designs created using rapid prototyping techniques.

Experience designing for a wide variety of production processes including but not limited to lathe, 3-5 axis machining, water jet, laser cut, punch, bending, welding, casting, various 3D printing types and injection moulding.

Experience developing aircraft, vehicles, or robots utilizing high power drives or actuators.
