Events Officer
Location: London, SW11 8EA (3 days per week in the office and 2 days working from home)
Salary: £28,000 - £32,000 per annum
The Institute of Masters of Wine is a membership organisation whose members are the Masters of Wine. Our mission is to promote excellence, interaction and learning across all sectors of the global wine community.
We have 416 members around the world, working as winemakers, viticulrutists, importers, buyers, retailers, journalists, educators, sommeliers and senior executives. The Institute runs a study programme for over 350 students and events around the world and conducts the examinations in London, North America and Australia each year.
We rely heavily on Members who volunteer to organise and carry out many of the activities.
The Role
The events officer supports with the delivery and promotion of the Institute’s international events and trips programme. They are integral in supporting membership activities and furthering member interests.
The events officer supports the annual membership survey, supports the administration and logistical planning of the Institute’s international Symposium, which is held every four years. The next symposium will take place in Australia in 2026.
The events include:
Walk around tastings
Seminars
Fundraising events
Master classes with producers
Webinars for members and the wider wine trade
Key Responsibilities
Event Management:
Working with the Head of Marketing and events committees, support the development of a programme of events in line with the events policy.
Supporting with all aspects of events including publicity, setting budgets, selling tickets and coordinating with producers and wine bodies.
Setting up and running online events and webinars.
Contributing to the marketing of all events globally.
Preparing, monitoring and reporting on budgets for individual events, and the events programme as a whole.
Ensuring all invoices and reports have been received after the event.
Act as secretary to events committee meetings.
Lead a programme of international membership get togethers, taking advantage of attendance at trade fairs and tasting events.
Evaluate the success of events using analytic tools and feed this back to the Events Manager and events committee for future improvement and planning of annual events calendar.
Skills and Qualifications
Events management experience
The ability to develop productive working relationships with a wide range of people
A keen interest in wine would be a bonus!
Excellent IT skills (MS Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Excellent written and spoken English
The ability to prioritise and organise own work and work under pressure
Experience using a database (Microsoft Dynamics/Salesforce) (Desirable)
Experience in project management (Desirable)
Experience in a membership or educational body (Desirable)
