About the role
As Governance Manager, you’ll be responsible for developing and overseeing governance operational practices through your own actions and through leading a dedicated team. You and your team are tasked with delivering technical expertise and advice in relation to the ‘business to business' relationship between NFU Mutual and the self-employed agency network.
This role is responsible for maintaining and managing the contractual mechanisms in place for the self-employed agency network and business model, including ensuring these comply with relevant legal and regulatory standards. As an authority on the diverse and intricate matters related to these mechanisms, including communicating changes to these, you will offer advice and support to relationship managers, business leaders, stakeholders, and projects. Your expertise and effective decision making will be instrumental in driving development and managing legal and regulatory risks within the organisation’s appetites.
You’ll be responsible for delivering a broad range of technical expertise, guidance, advice and support to the business including through your team. This encompasses a comprehensive suite of aspects such as managing risks effectively, finding solutions for stakeholders, ensuring that relationship practices reflect and respect the business-to-business model, resolving disputes efficiently and ensuring accuracy in output. You’ll also be responsible for identifying and responding to relevant external legal and regulatory developments – translating these into actions.
Another key aspect of this role involves the procuring and overseeing of external legal advice pertaining to the contractual relationship/mechanisms and business model. This entails coordinating with the internal Group Legal team as necessary and managing these activities within the allocated budget. You’ll be responsible for the effective use of external legal advice to ensure that relevant organisational obligations are discharged.

About you
You’ll possess a robust understanding and practical experience within a financial services regulatory environment, underpinned by a solid grasp of what this means in practice.
You’ll also have a proven track record in managing commercial contracts and the ability to effectively influence individuals at all levels of an organisation towards adopting best practices. Additionally, you’ll have strong planning abilities, effective prioritisation approaches and a history of meeting deadlines. Exceptional skills in influencing and relationship-building are essential, along with effective communication capabilities.

Experience of interpreting complex legal/contractual and regulatory (financial services regulation) wording

Dispute resolution skills and experience

Effective horizon scanning across legal and regulatory headings

Experience of instructing legal counsel

Experience with operating change mechanisms

Ideally, some knowledge of data protection legislation
