Pay Rate: £13 per hour

About the role
As a Chef, you will be responsible for the planning and provision of daily nutritious meals for all our residents while ensuring the food you purchase is fresh and within budget. In addition, you will ensure all health and safety and environmental standards are achieved and maintained. You must be a team player who will inspire and motivate your team.
Reports to: Home Manager
Key duties and responsibilities
Develop and test new recipes: Continuously innovate and experiment with new dishes to enhance the dining experience for residents, keeping the menu exciting and appealing.
Manage kitchen staff and schedules: Oversee the daily operations of the kitchen, including assigning tasks, managing work schedules, and ensuring efficient workflow.
Coordinate with suppliers: Build and maintain relationships with food suppliers to negotiate better prices, ensure timely delivery, and guarantee the quality of ingredients.
Monitor portion control and waste management: Implement systems to control portion sizes and reduce food waste, optimizing resource use and maintaining cost-effectiveness.
Conduct regular training sessions: Provide ongoing training and development for kitchen staff on cooking techniques, food safety, and hygiene practices.
Handle resident feedback and special requests: Address residents' feedback on meals and accommodate special dietary requirements or preferences to ensure satisfaction.
Maintain kitchen equipment: Ensure all kitchen equipment is in good working order, coordinating repairs or replacements as needed to prevent disruptions in meal preparation.
Prepare and manage kitchen budgets: Develop and oversee the kitchen’s budget, track expenses and adjust meet financial goals.
Skills and attributes
Proven experience as a Chef, preferably in a healthcare or hospitality setting.
Excellent cooking skills and knowledge of various cooking techniques.
Knowledge of nutrition and the ability to develop menus that meet dietary requirements.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage time effectively and work efficiently under pressure.
Knowledge of health and safety regulations and procedures.
Ability to train and supervise kitchen staff.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
Education and Qualifications
Food Hygiene Certified – Level 2 – willing to work towards Intermediate Food Hygiene qualifications.
First Aid Certified.
NVQ Level 2/3 in Food Preparation/Catering.
